Someone using my phone number

kattkatt77

Hi,

In the past week I have had 3 phone calls from. People who said I called them, when I hadn't even phone anyone that day. They say my number came up as the number that called.  Has anyone else been having this happen to them?

I was wondering how someone could be using my number and does that mean I am compromised in anyway?  Is this something I should report to the police as well or just my phone provider?

Thank you for your help with this.

To Clarify: The calls I received were from people who had been "called" by my number and calling me back as they had missed the call, not from the people using my number. They did not ask for any info at all. These 3 instances were people calling me back because they thought I had called them and were just as confused as I was.

Yes, i understand. This happens all the time. Now that you are aware of it, dont waste time trying to explain that you didn't call them. Just disconnect.

@kattkatt77

this is Caller ID spoofing.

Scammer use system to fake the caller id to fool people to think a real person is calling and not those annoying sales calls. The one receive that call see your number and not aware of caller id spoofing and hence call you back and ask

Sorry, there is really nothing much you can do to stop, but you didn't have anything compromised.  So, thing to worry about

Hi, evidently this happens more often than we are aware. They dont know anything about you. They are  just random calls so do not provide any information to the callers and just disconnect the call or don't answer the call if your not sure who's calling you.
