I have the 50gb 5g data plan and I'm only getting a max download speed of 20mbps at most

Although it may be a good source of information, every speed test you do may use up to a 1/4 gigabyte of data, so just be aware of that.

also, make sure you’re not utilizing a nearby Wi-Fi connection which may be skewing your results.

Even outside still way less than even 40 and that's on both 4 and 5 g I tried setting my phone to just 4 and still no luck indoor or out, and with lucky(bell) I was easily getting 100-120 on a 4 g plan on my room upstairs I tried changing the API settings and that made it a million times slower I restarted the device twice still no luck at all I will attempt at the grandparents a speed test to see if it's just my area

Try outside and try close to a tower. Max speeds are just that, max. Indoors signal deteriorates which slows down your data transmission. I'm on a 4G (max 100Mbps) plan, but I usually only get 20 Mbps in my house. But if I go outside and closer to a tower I can easily hit 100Mbps.

Before I changed I checked and there is 5g support here and I do get good signal full bars mostly and 5g it's just that I'm getting 20mbps speed on 5g and on 4g getting around the same if not more

That would be very disappointing.  I have the 5g plan and get way faster than that.  Bell (Lucky) and PM (Telus) often use the same towers.  Did you check the Telus coverage map for your location?

So there is no way to get better speeds I changed over from lucky mobile for the 5g network because it seemed worth it but I was getting 120 Mbps with their 4g plan

Unfortuantely, speeds aren't guaranteed. Speeds can be different depending on where you are and things tend to slow down if signal is either week or if there are many others nearby using the service at the same time.
