Let me tag onto this old topic, since it's related to my question and my question might be trivial. I have a Canada/US data plan. Do I need to turn on roaming on my phone to access my US data or will it just join an appropriate US network automatically, without using roaming?

you don't need to do anything to activate it. Whenever your phone is whitelisted with PM for VoLTE, which your phone is, the system will turn it on for you , but they will also hide that option. So, you re goo in terms for VoLTE

How do I activate VoLTE on an iPhone 14 running the most recent iOS? I've searched in these forums and in the Apple Support forums and haven't found a way to activate VoLTE. According to this page on Apple, I should "go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and turn on VoLTE or Enable LTE." But there is no Cellular Data Options on the Cellular page.
Thanks!

Adding to @computergeek541 comment.
You need to set your phone on VoLTE and also check if your phone is on the whitelist of phones that work in the USA.

To use data while you're in the US, data roaming needs to be turned on in your phone's settings, but it could already be turned on. As for the network, yes, network connection should be automatic as long as your device's settings are set to automatically select and connect to the most appropriate network. There isn't any way to use another netowrk witout using roaming. When you are in the US, you will be using raoming services, but roaming is include in your plan.
