RCS messaging “waiting for activation”

I had an iPhone 12 with successful access to RCS messaging.

I just got a new iPhone 16 and tried to transfer everything over to my new phone. I have managed to get SMS messages and calls directed to my new phone but I am unable to activate the RCS messaging - it gives me a “waiting for activation” message.

What do I need to do to get this activated on my new phone. I know that it worked with my previous phone that was older so I’m assuming a newer version should also have access to this capability.

I downloaded a new e-sim to transfer everything over. Is this not available through e-sim or do I need a physical sim number like I had in my old phone? When I try to change the sim number in my public mobile it says that that sim number is already in use.

hi @shae6969

usually better to disable RCS BEFORE porting but it is too late now

If you don't disable it before porting, then it takes a while for the RCS system to update that the old Carrier has released your number before the New one can enable it.

Now, just turn it off for a couple days, and try again. Then it should work. It took my friend 3 - 5 days for his to work. it is an Apple problem not PM.

hi @shae6969 sometimes it just time and it needs patience

make sure they new iPhone has latest iOS and Carrier Profile

Turn off that RCS toggle first , then Reboot phone and Reset Network Settings and try turning RCS on again and wait and  check again
