Put $40 on and nothing worked

Joedoe16

This was my first time renewing my plan so I bought $40 of data from gas station and added it on, I have the text message saying it was added but I have no data. I added another $10 today and now it says I have 8.5gb on my account. I am so confused, this doesn’t make sense. Can someone please help? What’s going on?

@Joedoe16  Perhaps chat with your friend to find out what he set up for you and how PM works. Once you know then look through the plans to see if a different one would suit you better. https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/plans

You can change plans whenever you wish but be sure to select the option to change on next renewal. If you change earlier there is no refund for any unused time.

Does it (almost always) renew just by adding enough funds? Generally no need t find no click the “reactivate” button once you’ve added enough funds?

 @AE_Collector

I've kept a "dormant" $10 account for a while now. Each time I renew, I just add money and it starts up on its own. I've never clicked that button.

That is the pay as you go concept.

This is a prepaid plan system. The plan has features that you pre-pay for. Other than the $15 plan, the only difference is the quantity of data. When you use all that data, you no longer have data. When you renew, it will come back. Or you add in more money and buy data add-ons.

Adding money doesn't do anything unless your prepaid term has ended. Then if you add the amount of your plan cost, the plan will renew.

Hi @Joedoe16

To help us all see what we're dealing with, can you screen shot these from your self-serve, making sure no account numbers or phone numbers are displaying?

As well as this:

@Joedoe16 Public Mobile is a Pay in Advance (for 30 days service) as opposed to Pay as You Go, deducting from a balance for each transaction/use. @Jb456 gave a great rundown of how it works. Welcome to PM.

@Joedoe16

Here's a summary that may assist you.

First log into your account.

https://selfserve.publicmobile.ca/

On the left it will show you what plan you have.

Plans are 30 days. Paid in advance. If you use up all the data on your 30 day plan. You have a few options.

1- buy a data add-on. They are 1 gig at $15. These add-ons stay on your account until all used up.

So if you run out of date on day 28. 2 days till renewal. You can buy a data add-on of 1 gig. If you use only 500mb of that data then your plan renews. You'll revert back to using the 30 day plan data and the add-on with 500mb left will sit in background until next time it is need.

To buy a addon. You add money to your account then click "Purchase add-ons" then buy the add-on you want.

2- you can open a ticket for moderators to renew your plan early. You have to add the amount of your plan to your balance first before contacting moderators. Note you will not be refunded for unused days.

3- You can log into your account and click change plan. Then select a new plan with more data (depending if you're not on a plan with the most data PM offers. Sounds like you are tho since you mentioned 8.5 gigs). Note you will not be refunded on unused days of what you paid for on old plan if you change plan immediately. There is an option to change at next renewal and the new plan will start then but that won't help you get data back. You'd have to wait till payment due date if you select change at next renewal.

Every 30 days you have to make a payment for your prepaid plan. It will tell you in your account the next payment due date.

If you have a credit card you can add auto-pay. This will give you a $2 reward per 30 days that goes towards your plan amount owed. To add auto-pay click "Payment" then "Manage auto-pay".

If you don't have a credit card. Yes you can simply stop at a gas station and buy a top up voucher. You have to add the money to your account before your payment due date. You can add the money by dialing 611 or log into your account and clicking "make a payment" then on payment type that shows credit card there is a drop down to select payment voucher.

I hope this explanation helps you understand how PM works.

@Joedoe16 It's odd that you say you bought $40 worth of data at the gas station. Do mean just a generic voucher worth $40 and then another for $10? You can't buy a "data" voucher only funds to add to your account to buy data or renew a plan or buy other add ons. What plan are you on? Can you post a screenshot of your payment history (remove personal details)?

8.5GB of data on your plan after adding $50 sounds like you renewed on the $50 8.5GB data plan.

Hello @Joedoe16 ,

Your SELF SERVE says 8.5 GB in your Overview, but you have no data services?

Have you been able to use data previously?

Try rebooting your phone.

Purchasing an Add-On:

Note that purchasing an add-on is a two step process.

You should be able to use it instantly.

1-First you need to add the $ to your account and

2-then add the add-on to your account.

Don't forget to restart your phone.

*You can make the purchase via self serve account or by calling 611 on your phone.
