Porting a number from Freedom Mobile to Public Mobile

My friend wants to sign up with Public Mobile. He currently has a plan with Freedom Mobile. Can someone remind me how to port an existing phone number again, and also how to find out if his number is portable?

Tell your friend to keep his freedom SIM card once it's deactivated and put into in a drawer somewhere. It sure is handy to have if a friend has one of those phones running Android 9 (I think or 8?) with greyed APN settings. Having an old freedom SIM card lying around to help solve this issue makes it much less of headache to deal with if it happens to come up.

A reminder that your friend needs to keep his old Freedom SIM in the phone to confirm to the SMS text from Freedom that he is porting over to PM.

Then activate the PM SIM on his computer.

Again, keep in mind, do not throw away the Freedom SIM until porting is fully completed.  

If he is activating $35 plan or over,   buy SIM from Kiosks or Amazon.ca and not from PM site.  Activate online to take advantage of 2GBBonus

If only activating for $25 or $15 plan, activate at kiosk for the free SIM

They will need to keep their Freedom account active during the porting process and once completed then it will be automatically closed.

Make sure that you have the old SIM card in your phone when you're porting your number. You should get a SMS message from your old carrier asking to confirm if you would like to port your number. Your reply should be: YES.

The confirmation message can take a few minutes to come in. You have 90 minutes from the time of request.
