My transfer from previous provider is working, even though I never received a confirmation message from Public Mobile. My old provider confirmed the transfer and closed the account.
I can call another phone and my old transferred number shows up correctly at the other phone. The other phone also can call me using my old number.
So why under Network & Internet, under SIMs it shows Public Mobile as the provider and the temporary phone number instead or the actual phone number that is active. The temporary number is not active. There is no reference anywhere in the phone of the actual active phone number.

did you try Reboot and Reset Network Settings?
If that does not change it, then it is something more to do with RCS and Google Message. Uninstall (Uninstall Update) for Google Message, reboot phone and Reinstall (or Update) Google Message. It will force a reregister with RCS and that will resolve it

All that you suggested was done without any change. It's an Android phone Pixel 7 Pro. I changed providers four times without any previous problems. Even had two providers simultaneous for a while.
Thanks.

The app shows my active number to be what it is supposed to be, my previous number. The phone works fine other than that it shows the temp number.
Thanks for the suggestion.

You might have to log into EverSafe & change your temporary number to the active number there...
I just had to do that for a friend....
