Phone use in Mexico

Hi all, I'm currently in Mexico and wondering if I can use my phone here or not. My plan is not specified to have full use in Mexico for calling, but it does say this:

• Unlimited Canada-US wide minutes and messaging plus unlimited international text and picture messaging++

If I understand that correctly, I can still send and receive texts in Mexico because its international? Does anyone know this for sure, or should I be changing my plan? I already have a Mexican SIM in my phone for data / whatsapp when I'm not connected to wifi

I do receive phone calls, but I don't answer them. . . .I have received texts, but I'm apprehensive to respond or even open them. Does anyone know for sure how this works??

That's great, if you know that it works, I'll take your word for it. . . .I guess I'm reading into it too much. I just don't normally trust companies and their little disclaimers and whatever. . . .but I will trust actual client experience. Thank you

many of us can assure you that Canada/US/Mexico plan includes roaming talk , roaming data and roaming text.   Many of us have the plan and share our own experience with you

but if you want to be very sure, ask PM support agent

I plan to upgrade to a Canada-US-Mexico plan in a weeks time. The 'small print' (2) is very vague though. Regarding the perk of 'UNLIMITED TALK AND TEXT, this is what it states:

* Roaming applies outside of Canada: This implies that if I am in the US or Mexico, and I use my phone, I will be charged for roaming. It does not state a rate for roaming

* Long distance rates apply from calls made from Canada to outside Canada: This implies that if someone from Canada calls me while I'm in Mexico, I can answer, but they will be charged long distance; OR if I am in Canada, I can call someone outside of Canada but I will be charged long distance fees

* International picture and text messaging includes text messages that are sent from or received in Canada: This seems to imply that I can text Mexican phone numbers from Canada, but while I'm in Mexico, I can only receive text messages that are sent from Canada

* Excludes premium and subscription-based messages, and texts sent while roaming outside of Canada: This implies that I cannot text message when I am outside of Canada because I will be roaming

I feel very frustrated with all of this super super grey area. Have I interpreted any of this correctly? What am I even getting, if I upgrade to the Canada-US-Mexico plan? Am I only gaining the ability to use my 60GB of data while I'm in either the US or Mexico??????

Yes, my plan is only US / CDN, but I was thinking that MX would fall under international. . . .not that i could make or receive calls, but maybe use data and send / receive texts. Anyway, it seems that the easiest way is to upgrade my plan. The cost is only $1 more per month to include MX and data increases from 50GB to 60GB. My plan renews on the 15th of every month, and so I'll change it on the 14th. It'll be nice to have MX included cause I plan to be here often enough and then won't have to bother with getting a MX sim in my phone. Thanks for the help!!

Your PM plan should not be working in Mexico, except for receiving texts. Interestingly, you can receive calls. Don't worry about being charged extra.  If you need to, you can answer calls. PM is prepaid so no surprise charges.  

Without the Canada-US-Mexico plan, you will not be able to send texts, outgoing calls and use any data while in Mexico. 

If you do need PM service (ie. use your PM phone number), you might want to check your self service account to see whether you want to upgrade the Canada-US-Mexico plan.  Likely more expensive than the plan that you are on presently.  Note: it may be difficult to return to the cheaper plan later since PM offers existing customers personalized offers (which are usually more expensive than their present plan).

Sound like you only have a Canada US plan and not a Canada US Mexico plan.  Without that,  you won't be able to use your service in Mexico.   And there's no add-on to purchase for roaming in Mexico,  so you have to buy local data Sim or travel easily to use the data in Mexico
