The reason being, when PM introduced the 4G LTE, and people were having issues at the time
The 4G Frequencies were like 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz downlink and 1700 MHz uplink (AWS)
PM needs to also have their 5G Frequencies Bands also laid out, so that if PPL want to have the 5G Speed plans, they would know if their phone would work or Not, as I am not sure if one on a 5G Plan would still have data onat least 4G LTE Speeds, or if No Data, having to then switch Plans to what their phones are compatible with

The unlimited data is based purely on the plan. It makes no difference if the phone is compatible with 5G.

Here's the Kicker, If lots of ppl who Only have 4G LTE/ Advanced Phones and Not 5G LTE, and picked one of the Two 5G LTE Plans, and whether they get 250MBS or 100MBS, if they got to enjoy the Unlimited Data 512kbp's after the bowl of Data allocated to the Plan is exhausted, would PM permit that as the Unlimited Data was originally designed for the 5G LTE Plans initially
Could that Loophole potentially be exploited?
Asking so as to ensure that fare is Fair
That would be the biggest question that PM would need to ask

Here's the thing, If Phone has 5G Built-In, But is Unfortunately Not compatible, are speeds still at the 250MBS on the 4G LTE/ Advanced, Or, at the 100MBS like Any normal 4G LTE/ Advanced Plan, and the One Important Feature, Unlimited Throttled 512kbp's Data or Not?
That could perhaps be a Loophole IF some PM Clients wanted the Unlimited Data and Only have 4G Phones Only Or 5G Phones that are Not Compatible
I wish it were actually 250MBps. It's actuallyu 250Mbps. The difference bettween those two speeds is actually quite significant (by a multiple of 8x). Either way, as I was saying, 250Mbps speeds are more than possible on a phone that isn't reporting a 5G network connection. Long before Public Mobile even stared 3G-speed plans, download speeds of faster than 250Mbps occured at Public, and that was long before 5G existed.

Seems to be pretty much the same for LTE.

Speed cap should still be 250 Mbps on a "5G plan", whether the phone is on 4G or 5G
05-31-2023 10:38 PM
HI @makkahn28 unlimied speed is based on plan
But i wonder if speed would still be capped at 100Mbps if someone is connected on 4G (but the plan is 5G)
05-31-2023 10:35 PM
It's based on the plan, not which technology the phone is using. In your example you would still have unlimited data.

Here's a Big question, if One chose a 5G Plan, Phone 5G But Not Compatible or having issues connecting to 5G, Yet can still get the 4G LTE/ Advanced Speeds, Do they still get the Unlimited Data, or Would it be treated like 4G where When Allocated Data Package used up, Unless a Add-On is bought, Data Service Ceases Until Next Billing Cycle?

@makkahn28 we've seen in the past that PM has difficulty maintaining such technical lists. Even the list you quoted is not exactly right. They need up to date info from technical teams which is extra overhead for Telus, and most customers aren't going to care about such details.

I agree with @computergeek541. It doesn't really matter if you have a phone that can use 5G or not. The fastest you'll be able to download is 250 Mbps, which is easily achievable on LTE.
Having a 5G NSA band list is complicated because of the LTE anchor band requirement. But if you really want to know, here are the 5G bands available today:
n5, n66, n71, n78
n66 is generally available everywhere that has 5G. n78 is the same as 5G+ on Bell's coverage map. The others are low band which are only in some markets and won't make a difference for peak speeds.
We will get n77 end of this year or early next year. At some point in the future we'll also have re-farmed LTE bands such as n7, n12, n13, n25, n29.

5G plans are about the maximum speeds allowed by Public Mobile and not actually about the network type. 250Mbps (and much faster) is possible on the LTE network. regardless of whether or not the phone has 5G compatibility.

HI @makkahn28 Phones these days are pretty much compatible as long as you buy from Canada or US
In the old days, we really have Rogers only phones or Bell only phones, even bought in Canada. Now, as long as you buy it here, a phone made for North America it is good
Yes, PM should show clearly the bands they use.
Hi @sheytoon , not all 5G phones can be used on PM/Telus, right? do you have the band list or anything we need to worry if you are buying imported phones? thanks
05-31-2023 05:46 PM
This is really only a problem for imported phones. Phones made for North America haven't had any frequency support issues for years.
05-31-2023 05:14 PM
If PM can't properly disclose that info, and ppl having 5G Phones that Might Not be Compatible on PM/ Telus Network, and PM Clients on a 5G Plan, imagine the complaints and frustration, that could damage PM's image right there
They need to remedy this

@makkahn28 - when you search frequency in the "Get Help" section, it brings you to some information:

@makkahn28 They used to have a phone checker on there website ( that you checked by phones( IMEI number to check )long ago , would definitely be easier for most folks .. myself included … great suggestion!
