Hi community,
I recently switched from Fido to Public Mobile (BYOD). I am using an international version of the Nokia 7.2 and I am located in Winnipeg.
I am experiencing a major issue with voice calls:
4G/LTE Data works perfectly with great speeds.
I cannot make or receive any phone calls. When a call is attempted, it fails immediately.
When I manually set my network preference to "3G Only", the phone loses all signal (Emergency calls only) and data stops working.
Testing done:
I tested my Public Mobile SIM card in my husband’s phone (a newer model), and it works fine for both calls and data.
I understand the 3G shutdown for Winnipeg isn't scheduled until March 2026, so I’m confused why I have zero 3G signal on this device.
Is it possible that 3G spectrum reframing in Winnipeg has made the Nokia 7.2 incompatible for voice calls already? Or is there a specific APN/setting I should check for Manitoba users?
Any help would be appreciated as I really want to keep using this phone!

3G network in Winnipeg and Manitoba will end this year
Yours is actually a device issue, you likely need to change the phone resolve the voice call problem
Your phone is not VoLTE compatible with PM system, you can confirm this by using the IMEI checker here:
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/get-help/articles/volte
With phones lack the VoLTE compatibility with PM's, they will be only using 3G for voice. While PM still has a 3G network in most of Canada, but 3G network in Winnipeg and Manitoba will end this year
To resolve the voice issue, you need a phone that is VoLTE compatible with PM network. Most recent North American phones will work. Avoid phones that are targeted for Asian market only as those phones won't be compatible with PM's VoLTE network.
