Name and Address on bill for proof of residency

Hi

I need some form of proof of residency for a program I am applying for. The requirements suggest a telephone bill with my name and address on it. I'm currently signed up for autopayments, and do not receive hard copy bills. I was wondering if it is possible to get a hard copy with my name and address on it sent to me?

Sorry, but Pubilc Mbile cannot help with this. A receipt from Public Mobile does not prove that you live somewhere because Public Mobile never checked any identification  If the person at the government office catches on to this (assuming that it's to update government identification), the Public Mobile receipts will be considered invalid for this purpose.

I am unsure of how companies/government service centres and the like feel about electronically printed documents as proof of address.  While they would be considered legitimate invoices, such documents can easily be changed/forged using a computer.  At the very least, orginal documents printed off by the company and mailed to you would likely be prefered.

As for this type of thing, other things such as bank statement, hydro bill, credit card statement, property tax bill, etc. would usually be acceptable.  If you can't provide one these, see if the program that you are in will mail you some type of document to your address so that you can bring it back and show them that you have received it.

@wvictor14 they are referring to a POSTPAID cell phone bill as then provider does credit check and name / address verification

I mean if you sneak it through all the best but Public does not qualify most times due to it being an online only prepay service

Looks like @kav2001c beat me to it so I’ll just echo his comment that most places won’t accept a cell phone bill as proof of residence for the reason he’s described. It usually needs to be a utility or landline service bill as those are attached to a specific address and therefore act as proof of residence.

Edit: Just wanted to add that a better option might be a copy of a renters insurance policy which, if you don’t currently have one, you should strongly consider getting.

@kav2001c valid point....  I wasn't thinking of that but it's quite true.

@wvictor14 hope it all works out for you

Home utility bills are in name of my landlord, and my current lease agreement is not dated recently enough to meet their program requirements.

I agree it seems silly to demand cellphone bill as proof of residency, but in this case they suggested that it should be sufficient.

@wvictor14 for obvious reasons a Public Mobile prepay cell is NOT proof

You can write anything you want (I can show you screenshots of someone who registered Homer Simpson on Evergreen Terrace as an example)
