Looking at coming over....but with a OnePlus

Hey gang,

After a lot of years on my current phone, I'm looking at something new (trying not to be limited to Samsung, Apple or Google products)...and I see OnePlus is back in the performance / flagship phone game (the 12 is great, the 13 looks to be spectacular once it hits global release). Unfortunately, my current provider is incompatible (likely by their choice) with OnePlus, so I was thinking of giving PM a chance.

Has anyone had any success with a OP 12 on PM and can confirm its compatibility? Were there any additional set-up steps involved? I know that most Canadian providers tend not to accept phones from outside the Canadian market and don't like phones from other Canadian carriers (even though all they need to be is unlocked).

Thanks for the help,

PM

@Psycho_Mike

It looks like OP12 is compatible with PM but it depends if it is a China or India or Global model.
The Global model will cover all PM frequencies but not as much for the model for China or India.

it is true the major brands are safer for compatibility, but OnePlus works here.  PM has quite many subscribers using OnePlus, so , yours would be fine

if you want to test, Is  friends who is using Telus or Koodo or PM to test their sim cards o. the phone first

The global versions of new OP *should* be just as usable in terms of wireless bands that other phones are....and let's face it, a good number of Google Pixels and Apple iPhones come rolling off Chinese production lines just like OP phones do. The difference is the OP phones are not sold by the Canadian network providers and are listed as "grey market" phones (just like US handsets, even if it is the same as the Cdn model)...so some providers don't support them (Fido / Rogers) and others do (as it is looking like PM / Telus do). If it is a Chinese make issue, it's really unfortunate as I had a good Huawei phone (from a Cdn. provider) in the past and the budget TCL phones (another Chinese brand) are available from all the big networks. 😕  Grrr... I'm about done with Samsung, not a fan of the iPhone they gave me at work and the Tensor chips and photo emphasis of the Pixels don't do it for me.

hi @Psycho_Mike yes, OnePlus 12 works on PM.  My friend has one and no problem

but it is not currently in PM VoLTE whitelist, so it is still using 3G for voice.  That is not a problem on Canada, just it might be more trouble for voice calls when roaming in US

@Psycho_Mike  I can’t speak to that phone specifically but what I can tell you is that if the phone you decide to get is not in the PM voLTE white you won’t have the best possible experience with public mobile , so for that reason I would still with a phone in the list and above

VoLTE white list
