Yesterday I transferred my old phone number from Freedom and ported it to Public Mobile. I got the public mobile service and the internet is working but I cannot receive any incoming calls. It says Service not available. After switching to Public Mobile I contacted Freedom to cancel my plan. They said I owe them my account balance for this month and I have to pay it off on 10th of September. Can I know why I am unable to receive calls but I can make calls to other people. Is this because my port is not successful due to owing money to Freedom?

Did you leave the Freedom SIM in your phone while waiting for the text to confirm you are porting over to PM?
This might also be the problem along with calling Freedom to cancel.

Incoming calls are usually the last to port over.
If you just ported your phone number from another cell provider it could take a few hours to complete the port, BUT you old account should probably NOT be cancelled, so that may be an issue.
*Using the other cell provider's SIM you should be still receiving calls on it, until the port completes.

I would suggest going into your Self Serve account and changing your phone number so you can at least get a working phone number / Public Mobile account.
You can change your phone number 4 times every 30 days, if you like.
Once you get your FREEDOM account sorted out, you can always port in the number afterwards through your Self Serve account.

Cancelling your Freedom service was a mistake. A phone number from a cancelled service cannot be ported to another carrier. Your phone number never did get transferred. When a porting request is submitted, the process is not instant, nor are you supposed to call to old carrier to cancel. You'll need to contact Freedom Mobile to reactivate your Freedom Mobile service. After your Freedom service is reactivated, you'll then need to contact Public Mobile to again attempt number porting. That's done by going to https://widget.telus.tiia.ai/publicmobile/publicmobile.html and then typing in "port request".

That is correct. Your port has not been fully completed. You need to settle your balance with Freedom first before they will release your number.
I don't completely agree. For a postpaid Freedom account, payment isn't due until any bills are issued. Unless severely past due, a postpaid balance owing should not prevent port out. However, I know that Wind has done strange things in the past if the customer had a WINDTab.

First things first: You should not be contacting Freedom to cancel your plan. If the plan gets cancelled, the phone number cannot be transferred. Cancellation is automatic upon port out.
Did you reply to a text message from Freedom to authorize the port out to Public Mobile?
