I have 5G but my phone says 3G

I changed my subscription a while back to 5G but my phone still says 3G.  On my phone under Cellular, Voice and Data, there are 2 options:  LTE and 3G.  Should there be somewhere to change it to 5G - shouldn't it be automatic?

The phone is not a 5g however it would still work on that band but not at the speed a 5 g phone would.

it is compatible as in the phone can use PM network

Again, your iPhone XS has only 3G and LTE (device limitation) but  can use PM 3G and 4G network.  The 5G speed plan has a top speed of 250Mbps.  You  can only connect to LTE network, but you still can get a speed close to 250Mbps, make sure you set your network mode  to automatic or LTE

@Rocky29 The iPhone XS was released in 2018 and is not 5G compatible. Are you aure it's an XS?

Hey @Rocky29

I too have that phone and it's not a 5G phone unfortunately but it is an awesome phone to use for this service. I'm on a 4G plan myself and getting roughly 115Mbps download. People here say if you're on a 5G plan, you can get upwards of 250Mbps but I personally have never tested that theory.

sorry, iPhone XS does not have 5G, that's why you only see LTE, which is 4G, and 3G

but you can choose LTE.  With a 5G plan, you can still get a speed that is close to  the 5G plan promised speed of 250Mbps  using the LTE network.

Afterall, the 5G or 4G plan are just about speed.

Hmm, I noticed when I was away last week and using data, the wifi assist was super slow...

What phone do you have? If it's an iPhone 12 or newer you need to install the latest software update.

@Rocky29  you have a 5G phone? You don't gave the option to change the settings to 5G because the feature is blocked on your phone.

However,  it's just about the speed so you still have access to 5G speed and will still get great speed.

If you don't have a 5G phone, you can't connect to the 5G network. The 5G plans that Public Mobile advertises are in regards to the max speed of 250Mbps they offer; 4G plans is max 100Mbps, and 3G is max 3Mbps.

Each of those networks is capable of faster speeds, but it is throttled based on the plan you have. The network is separate from the marketing. Even those on legacy 3G plans can connect to the 5G network with a compatible device, but their speed would be throttled to 3Mbps.

Set your preferred network to 4G (LTE) and see if that changes anything. It's odd you're only connecting to 3G. What phone are you using?
