Got an email about transferring my number - but I'm not a customer and didn't activate a sim card

Both my wife and I got emails around 4am local time talking about transferring our numbers to Public Mobile. Thing is, we are currently NOT customers, and have not purchased or activated a Public Mobile sim card. Were these emails sent out by mistake? Does someone have our info and tried to hijack our numbers/sims?

Thanks all! So we moved to Calgary in 2019, and our first carrier was public mobile. we are currently with shaw mobile (which has its pros and cons). weirdly, i did buy 2 sim cards about 2 months ago thinking that we'd go back to PM but still have them unused. I'll reach out to Shaw Mobile to confirm they haven't received anything. as of today, our phones/numbers are working as expected, so guessing it was probably a hiccup in the PM email system.

Sounds like SIM jacking.

@itspoots  I do remember reading about another member posting about something similar happening.

So strange both you and your wife received this email.

Perhaps, your number originally belonged to Public Mobile (Telus family of companies), and I wouldn't be too surprise that something glitched in their database.

I would suggest not to respond to the email or click any links in the communication.

Be on the lookout for any texts for porting; and do not respond to them if received.

You contact Public Mobile Representatives (CSA) by submitting a message(ticket) to them here:

Private Message to Public Mobile Customer Support Agents (CSA)

But, I agree with @BKNS27 , best to confirm this with your current provider, and also check your current online accounts (to see if all looks up to snuff).

@itspoots

It might be a spam but to be on the safe side, call your carrier to confirm.

I would think this is a glitch more than SIM Fraud, this is another reported issue in the French Forum:

@J_PM , is there any chance it was really an email sent from PM System by mistake?

Yes definitely hopefully it is a glitch, people getting a hold of your number and porting it or sim swap fraud seems to be blowing up and can be a pain in the a$$ to deal with. So definitely stay on top of it to make sure!

@itspoots   It sounds like it.  There was another customer reported the same thing earlier tonight.  no worry.  Do response to the email.  It could also be just spam, or glitch
