FRP locked—Need Help

cory_c

Hello. In 2019 we purchased a Samsung Galaxy J2Pro in New York, and within the year there was an issue with the FRP lock. Samsung in Toronto refuses to help because the phone was purchased in the States. So far, the phone has been seen by 3 mobile shop technicians in Toronto and one in particular questioned whether it was our phone (as if it was stolen). Also, online softwares—Tenorshare & BypassOnline have proven useless. I think we need a mobile phone wiz. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and if so, was a solution found?...Thanks.

Awesome! You gotta love the cellphone guy in your local mall.

Hello PM Community.
Determination helped me find a solution. After posting my phone issue on a FB community group I was referred to a local tech guy who promised me he could fix the FRP issue within 30 minutes. Left the phone at his home/work place and waited at a local coffee shop for his call. Within the time promised he called to tell me that the phone was working. Voila! He kept his word. As you can guess my 2018 phone is outdated but what matters is that it’s unlocked and working. My guess is that B&H in NYC sold us a returned phone as new. (issue resolved)

Hello darkomega. Your response has provided a different viewpoint to solving my phone problem and one which I will definitely look into. However, if by chance you remember who repair your phone I'd appreciate knowing who.

I think the PM community is great, and to everyone who tried to help me on this....Thank you!

I paid a service to fix an FRP issue on my phone back when I forgot my password after factory resetting my device, though their name escapes me right now, they do exist, Samsung themselves nor any provider can remove an FRP unlock as its a google security-related matter and seen the same way as apple's i-cloud lock.

Edited for clarity and to correct spelling

Yes, indeed, @softech

There are at least 2 regulars who aren't keen on recommending another user 'try' something before they 'try' it themselves.

I say baloney.

If I'm (personally) having an issue that a troubleshooting fix might remedy, I may choose to 'try' it.   If I'm not having the issue, I likely won't 'try' it.   Fact is, some troubleshooting items may be time-consuming to complete or reverse or undo, and I'm not going to be a guinea pig for someone else's device or account issues if I'm not having the issue myself.

When I was once 'called out' for not trying something about a year ago before posting it here, it required to try something on the device/account that had the Public Mobile service, and I was 'called out' for not trying it first.  The funny thing is, at the time I was NOT A PUBLIC MOBILE customer and the last thing I was going to do is search out those within my family circle to ask if I could borrow their device to try on theirs first.

Anyway, it goes to show how some users on this forum may "assume" or "presume" things before making certain assertions.

It's just silly.

SO, I say go ahead and keep offering recommendations or trial fixes, even if (God forbid) they're not 1st person tested  - the worst that can happen is someone gets into a pickle, the best is that it fixes their issue.

I've never tried the US site, @softech .   I only offered the option as the OP mentioned it was purchased while in NY.

@HALIMACS You never tried?  You know what?  Yesterday, I got challenged by two regulars if I ever try it myself before I post.    All these was because I was being polite and used the word "Try" and then I was being questioned If I know what I was suggesting.   LoL

No, I tried for you then.  It didn't work, It said the said is for US only and not giving me the result

Presumably, if the OP could have someone physically within the USA to put in the OP's IMEI# they might be able to receive a report from the US service.  No idea...

Good question whether they are linked/shared.   My gut would say no, but maybe a little cross-border cooperation does occur.

It seems B&H has gotten out of the selling all but the very latest and greatest phones which probably why are reluctant to accept a return of your phone. However if its just a mistakenly locked phone and I have found their customer support very helpful in the past I am sure if you have any issues with Samsung USA they will be very willing to help you in regards to proving that it was sold as an unlocked phone and help you over that hurdle if need be....generally you only need to prove where you bought the phone and in the case of the US that it was bought unlocked.

Thanks for the number BKNS27.

HI @cory_c   If Samsung USA cannot help, try local mobile shop.  Many still able to provide unlock service.  Which city you are at?

And there are still some online service for unlocking phone.  It is not too many left now as most people's phone are unlocked these days

@cory_c

I hope Samsung USA can help you.
I am getting a lot of spam from Samsung US to upgrade my Samsung phone or get rid of my iPhone.

Their contact number is 1-800-726-7864.

Good luck.

We purchased the phone outright at B&H, NYC, and the thought that it had been returned by a previous purchaser did cross my mind. Already discussed this with them. Due to Covid it's now way past the return date. Considering that the phone is fairly new our only alternative is to have a serious discussion with Samsung Tech USA.

As there are no guarantees with online services, we will have to reconnect with Samsung USA on this one. Thanks.

Try this checker,  @cory_c, to see if the device has been reported stolen or lost in either Canada or the USA.

Or this one:

@cory_c

Did you purchase the phone unlocked from a retailer in New York? Or did you purchase a locked provider phone? The general rule in the US is you must have at a minimum 6 months of paid plan service with that US provider before they will agree to unlock the phone for you.....even if you bought the phone outright and paid in full. If this is the case then contact the provider and find out what their minimum plan cost is and if they are willing what their buy out cost would be for them to agree to unlock it.

Otherwise if the purchase has been in the last 60 days and you believe you were decieved by the retail seller you may be able to do a chargeback and return the phone to the original retailer.

Yes, Samsung Canada will only unlock Canadian phone, and they won't help phones from US or anywhere else

Did you try to connect to Samsung US and see if they will help?

US carriers have different rule in terms or unlock, YMMV

there are still online unlock service with a fees, you checked those?

To my best knowledge Only Samsung or previous provider can unlock locked phones.

There are many on-line 'unlockers' but unless they have firm and honest refund policy I would not risk it.
