Do data plans work with portable routers / Mobile WiFi devices?

I want to use a Huawei MobileWiFi (Model E5372-05AC; portable WLAN router) in Canada. Does it work with your SIM cards and data plans?

Thanks, Tom

I know 2 people using Huawei B882 Smart Hub with PM. Works great. One has a data only plan and the other was a temporary full house solution that included pluging a regular telelphone into the router. Voice calls worked fine. Typically these are locked, so you need to make sure it works on the Telus network.

@tr Hi Tom,

Public Mobile works on following frequencies:
  • For 3G use (UMTS/HSPA): 850MHz/1900MHz bands.
  • For 4G/LTE use: 1700MHz/2100MHz bands.
  • For 4G/LTE use: 700 MHz band.

so as long as your router is Unlocked & have those frequencies it should work.

@tr, it appears that this will work but only on 3G and very limited LTE (2600 Mhz).  I got band information from this site.  TBH, you are better off repurposing an old phone.
