Do I need a physical SIM card before switching to an eSIM?

SamiBaloch

I am new to Public Mobile and looking to switch from another provider, but I'm a bit confused. Do I need to purchase a physical SIM card to switch my number to Public Mobile, or can I do it by purchasing an eSIM?

Thanks, in advance for your help.

if I purchase a SIM card will that prevent me from transferring my phone number from my current provider

hi @SamiBaloch S9 has only physical sim, stay with it. There is actually more advantages for physical sim, easier to switch phone

That phone doesn't have esim capability. You can only use a physical card.

@SamiBaloch   You can go straight to esim as long as your phone is esim capable.  What phone do you have?

Hello!

When signing up for a plan it will ask you if you want a physical SIM or an eSIM. You don’t need both it’s either one or the other. eSIM (must be supported by your device) is currently free for new activations but do know that you cannot transfer it between devices without having to re-purchase one for $5. As opposed to if you got a physical SIM card you could switch between devices without another purchase.

If you go the physical SIM route I’d highly suggest picking one up off of Amazon as it’s cheaper and faster shipping or picking one up from a local telus corporate store. Do phone ahead though to make sure they have them in stock.
