I look after both my dads and daughters phones on 2 different accounts. My daughter I was able to change hers to a cheaper plan but on my dads, who I have been looking after since 2017 with the same plan the whole time, I can only upgrade it. He doesn't use data, only talk and maybe 1 or 2 text a month. Is the only way to get a cheaper plan to stay with public mobile or do I have to move him to another provider?
My daughters is over $20 cheaper every 3 months and comes with unlimited Canada wide calling and 3 gbs of data, where my dads is only unlimited British Columbia, texting and no data.

hi @LRHK would you consider the Telus plan I suggested earlier? that's a plan suits his need and stay with the great Telus network

Its not available in my list of plans, the cheapest one they give me is $30/month.

Since $50 after discounts was satisfactory ( 50/3=16.667) then what’s wrong with the PM $19 plan that includes 1 gb data and unlimited texts and voice ? Plus you get 5% back with points.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, it really is unfortunate that Public Mobile has changed so much. Will keep on looking in the available plans and if nothing comes up, will change to another company.

I applied all the points in his account last week, its unfortunate that they went to a points system. His plan is $81 every 3 months and after all the referral, auto pay, years of service I was only paying $50 every 3 months before the change to points. Once these addons are used, I'm going to look for another provider.

First check your account and see what's available to him. If nothing cheaper then it's time to start looking around as black friday deals are out there. Also if his number not important to him he could close his account and open a new one and get a new number and get a cheaper plan that way.

I'd say vote with your wallet. Promptly disable your subscription and ask them to remove the payment info from the file. And don't fall in the trap of getting held up by not-so-important holiday add-ons in the age of Airalo like options. Those add-ons are just sunk cost, if any.
I have done the same. No point coughing up $ to a company which profits by time-wasting, non-real-time digital only support, yet adopts devious tactics to lock the customers in high-priced plans.

If the less expensive plans ( not cheaper- ha ha) are not available, consider setting up a new account at the least expensive $19 plan. Of course your dad would loose his long time existing number.

@LRHK The Telus $100 a year plan that @hTideGnow mentioned currently has a promotion that gives unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting plus 2GB of monthly data for the first year before reverting to 400 calls and 400 texts. You can see the offer here

if dad has had his plan since 2017, is it possible that he's taken advantage of a few Holiday gift freebies from past years. If so, check his account as he might have some Canada and International calling minutes and data that he might have accumulated. Check by logging in to his account / Subscriptions & Add-ons to review if he has any minutes and data available. Those Holiday freebies don't expire until he uses them up, even if that takes several years.

hi @LRHK and also if your dad's is so low, consider Telus' prepaid plan.
Telus has $100/year for 400 minutes. or $150/150 days for unlimited talk and 3GB data. those might suit your dad more. It is Telus, so it users the same network and you can easily port the number over

@LRHK unfortunately this is targeted marketing that Public Mobile has been doing for a few weeks now.
Many people find themselves in this same situation.
Depending on the current plan, most people cannot downgrade to cheaper than they currently have.
Due to that, you would have to decide whether to find another provider or stick it out.

hi @LRHK
what plan your da has now ? and what plan you are trying to change to? $15 or $19?
Now, you can only change to plans available on your My Account's Change Subscription page.
But it is unlikely you will get the $15 or $19 plans if his plan amount is $20 and above. :(. Sorry, this is how PM is now
Some might suggest you to contact agent and ask. But many asked and hit declined. So, there is really no point in asking them
