I have an older Samsung Galaxy S4 that I've been using for years no problem. A few days ago, if my phone rang I would swipe to answer for nothing there and after a few seconds, the call ended. It was the same if I dialed out, it would pause the amount of time it normally takes to ring a few times but nothing. No ringing or noise, just call ended. I can receive and send texts no problem. But no calls.
I thought it was my phone, so I took the SIM card out and put it in a new LG LM-G900UM that I had, and same problem. I can send and receive texts no problem, but I cannot make or receive any calls nor can I check my voicemail.
Is this a phone issue or a Public Mobile service issue? I desperately need my phone for work and am afraid I'm going to have to go sign up with Telus or Rogers directly and pay big bucks for new phone and monthly service. And for the record, I hate technology and barely know what a SIM card is. lol

Not to defend PM but they did send am email.in March 2025 that said our phones may not work after a certain date (I think the 17th, less than a week after the email)
And a list of phones that will work
I can't receive calls so I guess I have to buy a new phone when this one works just fine; it's fast and has no issues. It's annoying that VOLTE or 5G or whatever is causing this

Unfortunately, technology does change. The 3G network is going to be decommissioned across Canada soon. For example, Roger's already have started to decommission their 3G network. So, need to upgrade your equipment.
However, you don't need to spend lots of extra money for a hardware upgrade. There are some cheaper options out there. The best way to check if the phone is compatible with PM network is to check the IME of the phone in the VoLTE IME checker in my previous post. Even a used older iPhone 8 would work on then PM network. Probably can get a used one for about $100 these days.
Here was the previous whitelist of VoLTE compatible phones with PM (not updated):
Unfortunately, since LG is a smaller manufacturer, it does not offer support for PM network. But again, you should check the IME on the phone.
You should have received a PM warning text a couple of month ago about the network changes and the potential issues with talk with certain phones.

I barely know what a sim card is so I won't pretend to understand what a Volte is. Public Mobile should be letting me know to get a new phone in advance. And they should be telling me where to get a phone that works with their network. This LG phone is brand new in the box. I bought it last year from London Drugs. I read other posts and it sounds like other people have had retailers unsure if the phone they were selling would work with PM. So it sounds like I'll be forced to get some 5G expensive phone with a high monthly plan somewhere.
Can't wait to move off grid and toss my phone altogether. Thanks for the info.

It is likely a phone issue. Both phones are not VoLTE compatible with PM network. You can check the IME check for VoLTE compatibility

Telus has been changing the network, so having a VoLTE compatible phone is important for voice and calling.

If you want to remain with Public mobile, you will need to get a new phone.
