Hi all. I am brand new to PM and the issue I am having is if someone sends me a pic via text it is very blurry. If I send a picture to someone it is crystal clear. I try to use RCS when available but not all my contacts are RCS enabled. I tried the APN thing but no luck. I couldn t find a recent post on this issue. My device is a 2023 razr 40 ultra thanks for the support

Hi All thanks for the input and support. I m going to call this solved but not really solved. I do understand that images are compressed but there could be other issues like hardware, software, network etc. the additional compression could be due to a Google update on May 2 as that has been an issue in the past. If I could use RCS for all my contacts I would. The compression on incoming MMS is all over the place for me now depending on the carrier it is being sent from. All incoming is now 17kb to 60kb. With Telus I had a minimum incoming at 215kb. Let's just call it a riddle wrapped in a mystery.

it is normal for a reduced file size when sending MMS. To mange traffic and resource usage, videos and images are often compressed before being sent and it will reduce the image/video quality.
This is a network setup for all network carriers, not just PM, and there is nothing much you can do if you stick with sending via MMS. So, if quality is an issue, please use RCS on Android, or iMessage on iPhone or simply email the images

Thank you the reply and suggestion. I did try resetting my network settings and restarting my device but unfortunately no improvement. Via SMS MMS my pics are going out and being received at around 470kb. My incoming pics via SMS mms used to come in around 200kb to 215kb but now they are coming in at 17kb. I might buy a physical SIM so I can put it in another phone to see if the same issue happens. Any thoughts?

Hi @ Adam79
You can try reset network settings... Let us know after that if it is working better

no, it won't be because of the sim
in fact, the issue is more the sender is not using full resolution to send you the image. So, it is an issue with the sender
RCS, Whatsapp (will also reduce the file size) could be alternative

Sorry for the late reply @Adam79 ... you know... "work" get's in the way sometimes.
No. For sure not. SIM and eSIM are just connection tools. I switched to eSIM recently and no problems. I was hoping someone, like an Oracle could step in and share the MB limit on MMS when sending pictures. I think that might be the issue. Remember, PM is bare bones. Little as possible for little dollars. I can't think of anything else other than "Google".

Thank you for the quick reply and response
I am using Google messages and never had this issue with Bell or Telus. I am having this issue with images being sent from both Andriod and IPhone. Primarily when someone sends me a screen shot.

There is a limit to sizes of the files that can be sent. Depending on what quality of picture they are taking, it may be getting greatly compressed coming over.
Side note, if they are using an Android, Androids compress pictures A LOT!! Try sending the phone via some app like Whatsapp or Facebook messenger or a 3rd party messaging app. If it comes out clean via the other app, then it's being compressed on their end.
