I know a few people in the Salmon Arm area who are having problems making and receiving phone calls using Public Mobile over the last couple of days. Their data works fine, but all incoming calls go straight to voicemail and outgoing calls never connect.
My calls have been working fine, but I had a couple of text messages that couldn't be sent at all yesterday (I had to resend them).
Some people on Facebook have mentioned problems with Telus service that last few days as well.
Anyone know if there are issues in Salmon Arm right now? Telus outage map says things are fine.

Until telus implements VoLTE calling for pm using a workaround voip provider is your only resolution since telus removed your local cell tower's 3G network to upgrade to 5G. They have been consistently doing these kind of upgrades sacrificing a few pm customer's access to voice calls to increase 5G coverage.
There is only a certain amount of time that they can continue to do this and not implement VoLTE however affected customers are far and few between and its not clear who you can complain to push telus into complying with the Telecommunications Act of Canada. Really you need an advocacy group to help organize and file a formal complaint with the CRTC.
Rumor has been rife with the end of the year being the approximate time frame for the VoLTE roll out to happen and that's probably about the limit of time telus can get away with denying its customers (public mobile customers are ultimately telus customers) basic telecom service before a class action type lawsuit/complaint would have real credence.
In the meantime when you do have voice calling service (a 3G network connection/signal) call forward your "unreachable" to your voip phone #. Then at least you will no longer miss incoming calling to your pm number when you have no 3G signal it will ring thru to your voip provider phone #.
If nothing changes come early 2023 come back here and see if there's some grassroots organization happening that can apply to be heard at the WCC review hearings the CRTC will be conducting in the spring. Actually come back in December to get your holiday gifts from pm then come back in January......maybe by then the scattering of affected pm customers in and around the Shuswap can band together with a petition or Facebook group? There's probably quite a few of you.....you just been a virtual coffee shop to meet at? Maybe a mastodon server?

Did you ever get a resolution? I can't receive or send calls in Salmon Arm for a few months now. I have a 4G signal, the phone looks like it's trying to do something and then exits the call about a minute later with no ring tone. I can use data and make calls over data. I've restarted my phone, removed and reinserted my SIM card. Calls work in other areas.

Lol....they had an apple computer in my highschool homeroom because I was in the special arts diploma program but I never bothered with it as I had figured it could never replicate a true artist's hand. I ignored technology for 30 years until basically joining pm when I finally had to admit to myself that I was wrong....for once!🤔
It may be worthwhile to contact customer support and/or telus directly if your home services are with them given the update to this thread here...

Geeeesh what’s the point of tracking 250 mb of data and only use at the most 125 and am sitting 12gb of freebies.
Youll never get get me back with an android. I would be only one in the family without one.
Apple knew what they were doing when they supplied free iPads and iMacs into the BC school systems.

Have no idea...as long as it works.
Anyhow is there a way to see your various networks signal strength on an iPhone like there is on Androud?
Yes 4 vertical bars.

They've had Public Mobile for years at the same residence and phone calls only stopped working in the last couple of days.
Is it possible that Telus is starting to decommission their 3G network in the area and one of the towers no longer has 3G capabilities?
Heck. I don’t know. I would only assume that any newer stuff would be downward compatible.

Its certainly possible but you should be able to connect to the other towers offering B2(1900) and B5(850) unless you are blocked by mountainous terrain. Im not sure if a signal booster would help in that case....rumour had it that VoLTE is coming to pm by the end of September. Use the workaround for two weeks and if your calling hasn't returned by then make a formal complaint about the loss of voice services to pm.

We are relatively close to one of the tower locations (less than 2km). Could it be possible 3G has been decommissioned on this tower? As LTE data works fine, that means we can definitely “see” the tower.

You have good coverage from several towers. Where are you located on the map? It should be just temporary.

Reboot as mentioned.
My iPhone XS is on LTE. No issues. Try both.....see what works best.
Sounds odd...but I am no pro on 3G or LTE.
If data works and calls don’t.
First thing I would say is a dead spot for calls.....but why would data work and not calls.
In same area....all Bell Telus Koodo should have same problem....other wise a phone issue.
Is Focus on? Do Not Disturb?
Are you talking texts or iMessages not going through? iMessages need data or wifi to work. So you may have a Data issue too?

Yes they are. Maybe @CountyDownIeUk can help out with iPhone instructions. Not in my wheelhouse I'm afraid....?
07-18-2022 01:54 PM
Are those instructions to check signal strength for Android? Using an iPhone here and I don't see those options in settings.
07-18-2022 01:40 PM
After setting your phone to 3G only check your signal strength. Go to Settings>>About phone>> Sim card status>>Signal strength : -50 dBm to -99 dBm is what you want to see...-100 dBm to -110 dBm is very poor but usable. Anything below that is a serious problem. It could be just upgrades to your local tower causing issues with switching from 4G LTE to 3G for voice calls but not connecting for outgoing calling is worrisome if it continues for more than a couple weeks the usual downtime of maintenance as that would indicate that perhaps your 3G signal has been eliminated.
In the meantime when you do have a 3G signal use this workaround. Download a voip provider while on wifi such as textnow or fongo. Choose a local canadian phone number. Then call forward your busy/declined and/or unreachable to your voip phone #. When you have no 3G signal your pm incoming calls will forward to the voip app on your phone. This will work while on wifi or mobile data (0.5mb/min or 250mb=500min).
I will have a look at the cell tower map to see what is available normally in Salmon Arm.

HI @siberianquirk sound like three there are problem with 3G network there. You have reboot your phone?
Also, try to re-seat your sim card and see if it makes any difference

@siberianquirk hi try setting phone to 3g in your network settings if issue persiststs
