My son has the $15 plan. Does this enable him to text within Canada? He says he can't send a text with his iphone on his new Public Mobile Plan.

@DReimer

If you turn iMessage off and enable both SMS and MMS your son will be able to send/recieve picture texts as well as regular texts unlimited. While MMS requires mobile data to be turned on they do not count against the plan data on the account. The data used for MMS is run thru a separate server so even if all plan data is used in the account MMS will continue to work.

@DReimer

Was there a previous phone number connected/registered to this iphone prior to your son's Public Mobile number?

If so, set up your phone number On your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is on. You might need to wait a moment for it to activate.
  2. Tap Send & Receive. If you see “Use your Apple ID for iMessage,” tap it and sign in with the same Apple ID that you use on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch.
  3. In the "You can receive iMessages" section, make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected.
  4. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected in the "You can be reached by FaceTime at" section.

If you turn your data off occasionally, then it is recommended to turn off iMessage altogether and use regular text messaging instead.

To do this, go to Settings > Messages and toggle iMessage off.

If you prefer to use iMessage, then you can perform the following steps to fix the issue:

  1. Connect to the internet using WiFi or Data.
  2. Go to Settings > Messages and toggle iMessage OFF.
  3. Turn your iPhone off completely, then turn it back on.
  4. Go back into Settings > Messages and toggle iMessage ON.
  5. Make sure “Send as SMS” is also turned ON.

Yes. This plans allows text messages while your son is using the service in Canada. These text can be sent by someone else who is anywhere and your son can send an outgoing text message to any destination.

Yes the plan does have unlimited texting. Have him try his SIM in another phone to see if he can text from it?
