Unable to register in Intercom.

Hello,

I apllied this public mobile number 2 weeks ago, and today when the building manager tried to add my phone number in Intercom (So that the buzzer number on my front door will connect directly to my phone, it helps me to open the door by phone since I don't have a buzzer system in the room), it shows that my number is a long distance number, which means it might not be in Vancouver, but I did apply it in downtown, the phone number starts with 778, I don't know what happened, is it something wrong with Public mobile service? Thanks.

Re: Unable to register in Intercom.

@boyce922 if, as mentioned, it comes down to you having to change your number. You can do so in your self serve account.

Public Mobile allows one change per 30 days.

Re: Unable to register in Intercom.

@boyce922 Not sure how that system works, but have you tried adding 1 in front of the number?

Re: Unable to register in Intercom.

@boyce922  It's not the 778 that's likely the problem, but rather the 3 digits following that. For instance, I too have a 778 number, but the 3 digits following that are an Abbotsford number, therefore anyone calling me from Maple Ridge, BC, via landline, would have to dial a long distance number.

Re: Unable to register in Intercom.

@boyce922  the 778 area code has been in BC since 2001. What happens when you dial other local numbers without the 1 in front of the number?

Your building ownership is either disallowing the intercom system to call long distance numbers or that's how the system is deisgned.

If your phone number is not really long distance to call from Vancouver, that's something your building management is going to have to take up with their telephone carrier. Public Mobile would have no control of that.

However, my bets are on the fact that you phone number might not be a Vancouver number. What are the 3 digits after the area code?  The city that the phone number belongs to can be check at the CNAC website.

As with just about everywhere...in this case 778 is province-wide. What do you mean "I did apply it in downtown"? Those intercoms will be sensitive to the old-timey local area calling.

Re: Unable to register in Intercom.

This is what I got from Wikipedia as Vancouver exchange for 778

Does your number start with any of the 3 listed?

Maybe if you change to a new number that starts with any of the 3 numbers listed you'll be able to use it with intercom

(778) – 200 222 224 227 228 229 230 231 232 233 235 239 288 300 302 309 316 317 318 319 320 321 322 323 327 328 329 330 331 333 370 371 372 373 374 375 377 378 379 381 383 446 452 504 532 554 558 580 588 600 628 668 680 681 682 683 684 686 689 706 707 708 710 712 713 714 724 737 782 783 785 786 788 800 807 819 828 829 833 834 835 836 837 838 839 840 845 846 847 848 849 854 855 857 866 867 868 870 871 872 873 874 875 877 879 881 882 883 886 887 888 889 891 893 897 899 903 904 905 923 926 927 928 929 938 939 944 945 952 953 954 955 956 968 980 984 985 987 988 989 990 991 992 993 994 995 996 997 998 999

A 778 phone number is not exclusive to the lower mainland calling area. It is in Kelowna too etc.  Perhaps you chose the incorrect area that is attached to your  778 number.

Re: Unable to register in Intercom.

My following 3 digits are 201, so it is 778-201-XXXX, I don't know if it's the problem, and yes I will try to contact my building manager and tell him to try adding a 1 in front of my number. Hope it helps, thanks.
