Luddite,
Oh, you're a member of the Canadian Consumers Union?
Not yet; CCU just takes less time to type than Comrade Colander User.

Your account from Virgin Mobile must be in good standing and paid while you are doing the transfer toward Public Mobile.
You will be prompted to do the transfer when you will activate your SIM card or once you have opened your account with Public Mobile, you can fill the porting form from your self-serve account here.
If the porting fail, you will have to send an email to Public Mobile.
How to send an email ?
Click on this link : https://publicmobile.ca/en/on/contact-us
Then, at the bottom right of the page, click on "Email away" button.
- Choose radio button "SIM & Activation"
- Choose radio button "Porting"
- Choose radio button "Was the number you were trying to bring to Public Mobile a mobile phone number?"
Then click on "Email Us" and fill up the form.
Please note :
Porting a mobile number takes around 2-4 hours.
Porting a landline number takes 7 to 14 business days.

Luddite,
Thank you, but humility does not allow me to regard myself as one's better.
After watching "Hunt for Red October", I will call you Comrade Colander User for a day or two.
Sognasly? <--- Means "Agreed?" in the language of the Motherland.

Why thank you. I was doubtful of the authenticty of the report, but it seems my new colander does have the required compostion. Either that or I still have the capacity to learn from my betters!

If you are asking whether you can keep the phone number you have on virgin mobile, the answer is yes. HOWEVER, you must keep paying virgin until you are ready to transfer to PM. If your virgin account is not active you will lose that phone number.
Is this clear?
