Getting stray random texts... for ESCORTS!

RoguePC

Help! I'm getting all kinds of stray texts from randoms.  Lots of them.  Mostly from people contacting local escorts, but some other locals too. It isn't spam and I can converse with anyone if I choose to. I've also done everything the chatbot suggests, restarting phone, pulling SIM, checking compatibility etc (mind you, there's zero instructions on how to "verify your APN" .. *arg*). This is beyond frustrating.

@Anonymous

I would hope you are joking as well

Paying for / providing services is just sick

At least here in Canada we are making the laws have more teeth to punish those who do this

C36 is very heavy handed compared to the old laws

@RoguePC

Bill C36 makes contacing an escort illegal

Easy fix is contact your local police department

These online groups talk to each other alot

The second someone gets scared by cops I am betting calls dry up fast

Best solution is changing your number

Or for fun record calls and post online Cat LOL

@RoguePC  If you had the number more that 30 days you can change it to a new one via selfserve. Otherwise contact the moderator team explain the situation and ask for a number change.

To contact Public Mobile click here. The link  sends you to the private message function and adds the moderator team as recipient for a private message. You just have to enter a title and text in the body of the message describing the problem and post. The message will be received by the moderator team and they will respond to it. You will receive the response in your private message inbox.

Moderators are available: M-F from 8 AM to midnight Eastern time and S-S from 8 AM to 10 PM Eastern time.

Note: Moderator Hours are subject to change, but you can always find the current times here

Please note that account verification may be required when contacting the Moderator Team

Don't worry about that very silly suggestion provided by the automated and interactive help pages.  APN settings are not related in any way to text messaging.

Haha 🙂 a blog outing the "johns" would be hilarious!  But due to the volume, would be a heck of a lot of work to keep on top of.  Hmm.. maybe I'm in the wrong business!  j/k 😉

Definitely all different.  At first I tried blocking each one, then realized it won't help whatsoever - as they are all unique.

Start a blog and "out" the number of the escort questioners. Keep yourself anonymous. Wouldn't it be funny if one of the askers showed up as one of your contacts.

Are phone numbers repeating or are they all different?  If they're repeating I suggest you add them to your contacts, then block them.

dang that really sucks! its getting so bad that government needs to step in to regulate how these numbers are handed out.... I dont know of any screen apps out there but it seems like changing numbers is the best thing... hopefully that stops it completely.

They will definitely not think you're looney haha.  Its so common these days that I think everyone would understand...

I have been blocking every number that comes my way.  Except it seems futile, as more and more just keep piling in - all different (and oddly, local) numbers.  I guess I can try changing my number, but what a hassle - as I just finished giving everyone my new #.  *sigh*

I would also recommend changing your cell phone number or blocking those numbers but that will likely be less effective if you are receiving them in large volumes.

This seems to be happening more and more though... 😞

I thought of that too, except I'm getting texts from all sorts of people - not just for escorts.

That sounds brutal.

This is very unlikely to be an issue with your Public Mobile account, and more likely the result of your phone number being posted somewhere [online?] that it shouldn't have been. Once it's out there, there isn't an elegant way that I know of to stop the texts from coming in--the safest solution would be to arrange for a new cell number.

@RoguePC  I am not sure what this has to do with your apn but I can see how this would be disturbing if you are not to attached to your number I would change it
