Cellular network not available

peterpasschier

I have this phone, unlocked, works with other cards, I think it should work on Public Mobile: Doogee X7 Pro. My plan is the standard $30/30d, activated and paid.

In the SIM cards settings I have the TELUS labeled card active, and set as the preferred SIM for Cellular data, Calls and SMS messages. It shows Number Unknown

No signal is showing in the top bar icon, NO SERVICE on the lockscreen. Data is not working. When I call I get the message "Cellular network not available", and when I call my number from a different phone I get to the voicemail for that number.

I have rebooted a number of times, I tried both SIM card slots, anything else that can be done?

I think Koodo have live support as well.

Since you are having issue and already here, would you consider coming to PM for some saving?   🙂

Koodo is a separate provider from PM.  You would need to contact Koodo for assistance.

I've been a customer of Koodo mobile for several months now. I've had no issues with them up until last week. I cannot make any phone calls to anyone, I cannot receive any phone calls from anyone, I have no cellular data when I leave the house. All I have is internet when I am inside my home. I go into my account and the bill is not paid, but I'm set up with automatic payment. I pay off the bill now having no balance owing. I update my credit card information to be sure that it's still automatic ongoing payments. Two days after paying my bill, I still have no cellular plan. What's going on? I'm a paying customer and I'm not getting my service.

I didn't realize that phones had gotten that much cheaper in Canada in the last few years. The only bigger than 5.5" BLU under $100 is this: https://www.amazon.ca/BLU-Studio-Mega-8GB-Refurbished/dp/B07D3WMRPV (Refurbished, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, 6" screen)

Still not sure if it compatible (couldn't find it on https://willmyphonework.net/) but I think it probably will.

@peterpasschier I'm pretty sure all of the Blu phones are meant for the North American market (they are based out of Florida) and should work.  That said, if you could afford the extra $90 for the Life One X3 which @bud21ca suggested, it is by far a much better phone https://www.amazon.ca/BLU-Life-One-X3-Smartphone/dp/B0784VB4JX/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=...

My uncle had one for about a year before he managed to break the glass by dropping it one too many times onto concrete, but the phone itself is great for the $.

With only 1GB of RAM, the Studio is not going to be very usable IMHO.  Also, it's a refurb whereas the Life One X3 is brand new.

I think that I have seen some Blu devices without 3g, particularlg candy bar basic phones.  I also believe that Blu some of their devices may just be rebranded from other manufacturers (making it possible to get the exact same phone but not under the Blu brand).

@computergeek541 is right, there are some Blu phones that are not compatible and very basic, better off to stick with a better newer one.

The Moto E4 phone isn't a bad phone for that price, but at $122, I would suggest going for an E5 Play for nominally more.  It has a better chance of software upgrades and has a fingerprint scanner (Rogers version does, but not all variants do).

Another great phone for not alot more!

Yes your phone still works but you completely missed the points @Dunkgirl mentioned, she is saying Rogers 2G network is shutting down also if something goes wrong with a 2G Tower in your area they are no longer repairing and or maintainening it

Thanks for that suggestion. For me 5.5" is the absolute minimum screen size, I prefer 6" and up. And it's still above my normal budget (which is around $100).

But I'm no longer anxious to use my plan. PM has transferred the balance on my plan to a friend's account, and I ordered a Chatr SIM card, they are on the Rogers network so I can use 2G.

@peterpasschierYou may be able to still use 2G but at any moment you may not. Rogers initially was going to shut down 2G as of January 1st 2019. They have instead decided to leave it on and see what happens but its no longer officially supported, its provided as-is for an extra 2 years. If something breaks or has technical issues it may not be resolved so don't count on reliability they have already started covering their butts by claiming parts may no longer be available. You should consider getting a phone that supports all of the new frequencies even if you stay with ChatR. You're going to have to do it sooner or later anyway. Coverage is only going to get worse and when that 2G rogers tower has an issue, even emergency calls mode will not work.

@peterpasschier how about the Motorola E4 I linked too? it is a great phone too. Great battery life, no lag.

@srlawrenhas a good suggestion.

The BLU One is twice the price but has far better value. For only twice the cost you get 4x the performance

Totally agree about the life one x3, they are a great phone. @srlawren is right about the studio not being very functional now. It is pretty outdated.

If you are on Amazon, Blu makes some decent cheaper phones that are compatible. I have used the blu life one x3, it is a great phone with crazy battery life.

Amazon has a good selection cheap, best buy online also is a great place. Just make sure it is a North American version. It gets tricky sometimes. I have bought wrong phones a few times. Anazon has the best return policies though.

@Dunkman @stonechucker are correct. Your phone will only work on band 7 - 2600mhz for 4g. Maybe like others have said pick up a cheap unlocked phone with compatible bands.

peterpasschier

In my case unfortunately, the Doogee X7 Pro only supports W-CDMA 900+2100 on the 3G spectrum, so can't change settings there, and Public Mobile doesn't support 2G.

I bought an Asus Zenfone4 a few months ago, I had the exact same issue. Turns out the phone was made for the Taiwan market. I could only get the phone to make  and receive calls if I changed phone setting from lte to 3g manually.

Get a cheapo compatible phone and give to a kid or a parent or something maybe? You can kind of change things around to make use of the account/SIM elsewise.
