Edit: This offer will be extended until April 3rd, 2018.

________________________________________________________________

Effective 1:00PM Eastern time today, we are offering a SIM card and your next 30 days for $0 when you activate a Public Mobile SIM card on a 30-day plan! This will be applied as a credit and the offer is available to new customers only until April 2nd, 2018.

How to Get this Offer:

  • 30 Days for $0: When you activate a Public Mobile SIM card from now until April 2nd, 2018, you will get your next 30 days of service for $0!
    • The credit value that you will receive will be equal to the price of the rate plan on which you activated your SIM card.
    • Eligible customers will be credited the 30-day rate plan amount within 72 hours. These credits will count towards your next renewal date.
    • You will not need to top-up your account at your first renewal date, unless you purchase Add-Ons, change or future-date your plan to a more expensive plan during the first 30 days. Note that, if you have AutoPay, you will continue to receive your $2 AutoPay reward every 30 days.
    • For example, if you sign up on our current $32 for 1GB at 3G speed promotion, your account will be credited $32 within 72 hours of activating
    • This credit will cover the rate plan cost only. It will not cover additional costs such as Add-Ons.
    • Eligible customers will receive a confirmation text message when the credit has been applied to your account. These details can also be found by signing in to your Self-Serve account.
  • $0 SIM Card: SIM cards will be $0 when you activate in-store at one of our retail partner locations, which can be found here.
    • If you wish to pick up a SIM card in-store and activate at home, you will be asked to pay the regular retail price by the retailer.
    • Due to the short promotional timeframe, SIM cards purchased online will be regular price ($10 each), as we cannot guarantee that they will arrive before the promotion ends.

PM obviously competes with Chatr/Fido/Rogers and Lucky/Virgin/Bell (and Freedom) for the same pool of customers - every subscriber they pull away from a competitor is another wallet feeding Telus.

PM's primary function is to service value-minded "low-ARPU" customers - as it always was.

But PM is now also a platform to promote "high-ARPU" customers up the brand chain to Koodo/Telus subscriptions - as it always was.  The big difference these days is that their intentions to increase Telus revenues (through phone subsidies and through collection/resale of personal information) are more shamelessly evident.

I've noticed that the "high-ARPU" customers are basically self-selecting - always the people with high mobile data needs - and will always be the front-line targets/victims of these Telus brand restructuring initiatives.  New PM customers have little to fear until/unless their plans and usage metrics suggest to Telus that more money can be sucked out of them.

@Stormy I have purchased multiple SIMs at Walmart no issues

Sorry, I am new here, so... are you referring to PM's promos that forcing people to switch to Koodo?

Mostly, yes.  The whole fiasco from PM's "no surprises" $120/12GB plan, quickly followed by a "surprise" price increase, a CCTS scandal, and a relentless series of Koodo migration offers is the most obvious example of a blunder by PM, it's mostly sorted itself out now but the fallout still sometimes flares up a little.

PM discontinued their Legacy/Pioneer plans - gracefully, I think, but they still lost some customers who might have been salvaged if they'd made a little more effort.  There's always complications and backlogs when PM offers killer deals, and lately these offers have always been "limited-time" varieties without any breathing room.  In short, PM tends to do pretty well (and treat us pretty well) but they sometimes kneejerk things reactively in response to Telus directives and competitor offerings - it doesn't inspire much confidence in long-term brand reliability and it's not helped by the occassional blunder which betrays customer loyalty.

I don't expect my grandfathered plan will last "forever" - the day will come, eventually, when PM discontinues it and forces me to choose an alternative.  Hopefully by then I'll have accumulated enough Loyalty (and other) Rewards to make staying with PM worthwhile.  But PM has saved me plenty of money already and will continue to do so for a while (probably a couple more years, at least), so no sense in complaining about getting a good deal.  My comment in the above post was basically intended to say that my plan ain't broke, so I don't want PM to "fix" it, lol.

Fair enough.  And as an existing, loyal PM customer I certainly won't argue against PM offering to give me more for less, lol.

But to be honest, PM already gives me the service and plans I need at the prices I want, better than anything the competition offers.  So I'm content to just hover under PM's radar ... we've all seen what happens when PM's promos target existing, loyal PM customers.

That is not correct! I have purchased the SIM card from Walmart without activation a month ago.

Either you got lucky, or the Walmart you went to isn't following Walmart's policy.

Give these two threads a read,

And you will see what I am referring too. Not only that but I personally experienced the same BS at my local Walmart.

Personally I would eat the $10 for the SIM than give Walmart all my info, just to get home and have to change the account login. Or are you trying to say that Walmart and any other partner actally has access to something other than the selfserve portal?

PM has been working on their issues and there has been improvement.  The forum has had a lot less activity with issues lately and remember as a company you are still always trying to grow your customer base

@Brooke_C@  So, would this offer work in conjunction with $30/30 days* for 1GB @ 3G offer for new customers? Would I get a referral credit with this as well, when I bring my friends?

Should be.

>>> ALERT: I am not a CSA. Je ne suis pas un Agent du soutien à la clientèle.

This promotion is definitely set to match up with Chatr's current in-store offer.  Public Mobile's main advantage would be that all the plans are zone-free.  It's really too bad that the first 30 days aren't free.  Potential customers aren't going to like that and people would much rather have the very first month free as a trial period (just in case they don't like the service).

Honestly, Public has better things to settle, like the Glitch issues and such, and Stop all this Promo Telegram for the Time being.

Nice to see a new promotion but...again, new customers only, as well as instore activation only and a really tight deadline on a long weekend....better than nothing I guess but a lot of room for improvement.

So it's a popup sale, and you need to be local to a store to get it.

Depending on the Province or Territory, Friday / Sunday / Monday could be questionable for in-store activations, as it's Easter.

So, today or Wednesday or Thursday.
