Hey Community,

Put down that sandwich, it’s Taco Day! The best part about tacos are the hundreds of variations at your disposal (plus they’re lost cost which you know we love). Are you going to start with chicken, steak, pork, or veggies? How do you feel about cheese, lettuce, salsa, guacamole, and cilantro? Whatever way you like your taco we thought we’d share a little history about where this amazing dish comes from.

  • While the exact origin of the taco is unknown, Professor Jeffrey M. Pilcher at the University of Minnesota believes tacos came into existence in the silver mines of Mexico in the 18th century.

  • The word “taco” referred to pieces of paper the miners would wrap around gunpower to create small explosions in the rock. One of the first written references to tacos is described as “tacos de minero” or “miner’s taco.”

  • In the age of industrialization, migrants from all over the world travelled to Mexico and worked in taquerias. These taquerias were generally found in working-class neighborhoods and the food varied in style and flavor depending on the region or town.

  • According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the title-holder of the world’s largest taco belongs to Mexico! The ginormous, delicious meat and cheese filled flour tortilla took six hours to make and weighed in at a whopping 750 kilograms (1,654 pounds)!

Food is always better when you know the story behind it, right? We’re curious how you like your tacos, so comment below by 12:00 pm ET on October 11 and tell us how you “dress up” your taco. We will select three winners at random who will receive a $50 Taco Bell eGift Card! Contest runs October 4 to October 11, 2019. Read Contest Rules before entering.

I am good with just the standard ingredients with lots of hot sauce on a hard shell.  A taco isn't a taco if it is easy to contain the ingredients.  I have never seen anyone eat taco dressed in a tux.  It is all good.

I maybe the only one who truly enjoys lazy tacos. Does anybody other likes to load it with only cheese and melt it in toaster oven, then dip it in salsa?

My wife usually makes fry bread and we use that instead of tortillas, then we use the usual ground beef with taco spice, not much for veggies, just tomatoes and letuce. Finally we add salsa, shredded cheese and sour cream.

I like the soft taco/hard taco method. I put a soft taco on a plate then put the hard taco on top of the soft taco and load it up. Seasoned beef, cheese, diced tomatoes, lettuce, rice, sour cream, salsa, ranch and sometimes refried beans if I have some on hand. Then you eat the hard taco and what you loose drops on the soft taco. When you are done go load the soft taco and enjoy

I'll make the standard tacos, but things gets really interesting when we have lots of leftovers or take-out in the fridge.

Re-heated chow mein, deep fried calamari, chopped Chinese mushroom, hoisin sauce and a dash of sriracha in a soft taco shell.

I don't believe that chow mein is actually that uncommon.  Fat B Burritos (true name would be be deleted by the language filter) in Toronto puts noodles in the burritos upon request.

I like the classic recipe: beef, shreded lettuce, onions, tomatoes, sour cream and cheese! And a bonus for avocadoes!

In this order!

Soft Shell (preferred, but hard is okay too)

Ground Beef or Veggie Ground (Yves, etc.).

Refried Black Beans (less salt than the normal ones)

Taco Sauce

Veggies (typically tomato, onion, olives)

Salsa
Shredded Cheese (Typically Nacho blend, or just old)

Sour Cream

Tiny bit more cheese

Fry up beans and ground beef. Fill up Taco shell and top up it up with whatever you like such as cheese, salsa, avocado, onions etc. Just select topping as you would at Subway Sandwiches.

The Taco's my family and friends rave about.

First of all:

  1. Fry up lean ground beef combined with beans.
  2. Spice up with your favourite spices.
  3. Generously fill up soft taco and then fit it in a hard taco shell.

Top up with:

  1. shredded Cheese
  2. Medium Taco Salsa.
  3. Diced fresh green onions.
  4. Diced tomatoes.
  5. Diced lettuce.
  6. Avocado slices.
  7. Sour Cream to taste. (optional to those that are not lactose intolerant)

ground beef, beans, lettuce, tomato, silantro, cheese, sour cream and salsa! 🙂

Well a soft taco is really a burrito.... and I prefer a bean burrito above all else, with Diablo fire sauce.

Keep it simple.

Soft shell, some beef and a bit off cheese. Like a burrito. Actually, a burrito is better lol.
