A Letter From Dave: Reflecting on our journey together + Introducing our 5 Days of Giving!

P2814_PublicMobile-December2018_HeaderBanner-v5_Dec6_Dec06 (1).jpg

Hi Community,

This December, we are celebrating 5 years since we embarked on a journey to redefine how wireless service is delivered to Canadians. We started down this path with the goal of giving Canadians control over their wireless spend.

Central to the journey was the belief that if we did things differently and we saved on costs, we could pass off those savings to our customers as a result. This is how our online support model, and our beloved Community, came to be. At the time, I was told over and over again that this was a crazy idea; it would never work. Yet here we are, 5 years later.

I want to sincerely thank you for supporting our crazy ideas and playing a part in making Public Mobile what it is today. We could not have done it without you. Of course, we still have lots of room to make things even better, and we’re excited about incorporating your ideas in 2019 and beyond. In particular, this is the wish list of things you’ve asked us to focus on next and that we are passionately working on:

  1. Faster Moderator response times
  2. An improved ticket submission process
  3. Additional goodness from SIMon The Bot

To thank you for being on this journey with us, we thought we’d have our own Public Mobile Advent Calendar and give away gifts everyday. But, in true #LessforLess spirit, we’re going to keep it to 5 days only because 25 would get very expensive. 🙂

With that said, we’re going to be holding a contest everyday from December 10 to 14 to get your holidays off to a great start! Each day, we’ll be announcing 5 winners. Make sure you come back on Dec 10th and check back every day next week!

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Dave

Wow! I'm a new PM customer here and am so happy to be a part of this community. And I also wanted to say thank you for holding a giveaway, this is very exciting!

The best holiday deal I got was boxes of delicious Lindt chocolate for only $3 each! My friends and I bought the entire stock on the shelf 🙂

The best deal I ever got on the holidays was a router for my home internet. Normally it goes for some $320, but this unit went on sale for $200. Saw the deal while browsing the store and picked it up on the spot.

Saved over a hundred bucks on something I use pretty much every minute at home.

I gave up my seat on Air Canada and they ended up paying for my vacation for waiting one day. It was a sweet reward for having time.

I bought a Bose surround sound speaker system years ago for more than 60% off. I think that was the best deal i ever got on the holidays. bought it boxing day. what a treat.

The best holiday deal that I have ever gotten has to be from 2016. I bought a HP desktop PC and a ASUS monitor combo from a electronics store for $499 (Black Friday sale). I thought that was a great price, as it was already $300 off. Two weeks later, (mid-December), the same combo was again on sale in the store's flyer, but for only $399! I went back to the store and requested the price to be adjusted and sure enough, got the combo for the $399 price! I'm typing this on that same PC as we speak. 🙂

Seems I've missed a lot here.

So I just recently got a new big tv. I read all these amazing bargains here and mine pales in comparison.

I was pretty chuffed at my $230 off a $2000 tv that was already on a special price. I was trying to get out the door all in on a one step lower model. Then the guy said he would do one model up for the same price and then went $30 less than the lower model special price. Done. I was looking at $10 off the lower model that ended being $230 off the one up model.

So there's my entry.

Hi there,

I am new to Public Mobile but have been pleasantly impressed with them so far. 2 months in And I am already experiencing great deals and discounts on my bill. That being said I would like to participate in the 5 days of giving. Day 1: best holiday deal.

The biggest holiday deal I have ever got would have to be a pair of brand new jeans for one cent. That's right exactly a penny. It was a Buy one get one for a penny on Boxing day at a local clothing store that sells premium brand name clothing.

Thanks

The best holiday deal I ever got was probably an upgrade to a first class flight as a result of a snowstorm. We'll just ignore the fact that the flight was heading south-west when I'd been /intending/ to fly northwards to get home for the holidays.  At least it got me out of the snowstorm areas (and to a connecting flight that got me home), and they even served orange juice in a real glass!

Hi,

I'm a little confused. Is this the correct post to reply to, to be entered for the Advent Calendar Day 1 contest?

If yes, the best holiday deal I have gotten is a Henckel knive set, that was regular $900, and I bought it reduced for 199.

The best holiday gift I’ve ever received thus far was a set of hockey tickets from my school when I was young. My mother wasn’t well off and did her best raising me by herself. So my school, knowing that I was a sports fan, gave me a set of nhl hockey tickets and my mother and I went to my very first hockey game. It was a long time ago, but still the best memory of the holidays for me. 🙂

“best holiday deal”

I was seperated from my long time and most beloved foster family when I was only 5 years old because they had to move to the united states for employment reasons. We visited each other as often as the courts allowed, usually 3-4 times a year. One year they surprised me with a one week family vacation to Disney world resorts in Florida!! I was 11 years old and I was with family and on a vacation mostly dream of. After the week of fun I was a bit sad, my foster parents smiled and cried and told me that I was and always would be family and every year from then on I was to be part if their family vacation to Disney world resort!!! I may have had to be seperated for months at a time but they always made me feel part of a family. That is the best holiday deal & surprise I have ever gotten !! 😁 and just to note they got the best deal as yearly Disney vacation members!!! “best holiday deal”“best holiday deal”

Best holiday deal I have gotten is my Instant Pot for $95 with delivery! I know that’s not the cheapest deal, but Instant Pot is a life saver as I’m staying in a basement with no kitchen facilities, and now I can finally cook proper food (not microwave food 😞 )

Psygineer
Deputy Mayor / Adjoint au Maire

Best Holiday deal I ever got was getting out of my dead-end soul-sucking depressing job (but in my field) I had been trapped in for almost a decade to a new company that I love working for. I got the news just before Christmas that I got the job. It turns out my former boss had been sabotaging me during the reference checks because I was too good of a worker to lose. I got the job because my boss was on holidays when they were doing the initial reference checks and had to use an alternate. How I know about the sabotage is that one of my friends called my boss and pretended to be doing a reference check and my boss more or less made me sound totally incompetent. I had a flawless attendance record and always arrived at least 20 minutes early, often staying late too and my boss said "When [Psygineer] does happen to be here, you can count on [Psygineer] to try to do the job right" or something to that nature. Most responses were like that.

The best holiday deal I ever got was actually a sad one. Staples had GTAV on clearance for $20 (last year) and I bought it because a friend of mine desperately wanted it. I got it home and the key in the box did not work. Turns out someone had opened the box, opened the sealed pouch the key was in without breaking the seal, took the key and then Staples rewrapped the game. Rockstar Support refused to help me with the issue, Staples refused to take back opened software, so I, being very annoyed and hoping that a little bad PR might help Rockstar help me I posted it to Reddit. When I woke up the next morning a Redditor had gifted me the game. I gave the game to my friend and they were very very happy.

The best holiday deal I ever received was when I got a ps2 for 99 dollars I just happened to be in the electronic department when they lowered the price for a special sale.  My son was so happy Christmas morning as I couldn't afford the regular price of one
