Questions re: SIM use when moving from 3G device to 5G device

I currently have an old dinosaur of a phone - Samsung A8 (2018) which is not 4G or 5G compatible. I am moving up to a Samsung A17, which IS 4 & 5 G compatible. I am considering another plan, one with data. The plan I have now is strictly talk & text, with only bonus data available.

Question #1: Will I have to have the current SIM replaced, due to the plan change OR can I simply move the existing SIM to the new device - with the new plan in place - and carry on?

Question #2: If I were to stay with the existing talk & text plan, would I be able to transfer the existing SIM to the new device and carry on?

I would like to avoid changing the telephone number, if that is at all possible.

Any help would be appreciated....V

You can keep using the SIM in all cases. You can move it to the new phone and use it there. You can keep using the same SIM and change plans as well.

1. No new sim is needed, all sim card, old and new, work the same. So, you simply move your sim card from old to new phone.

2. stay on the same plan or not, you will move the existing sim from old phone to new. You will keep the same number

And if you need a different plan, just login My Account, click Change Subscription on the top right and check the plan you like. Use Change on Renewal option to schedule the plan change. Again, you will keep same phone number and use the same sim card
