416/647 availability with Pubic Mobile?

I am looking to land a 416 area code, ideally. If not, an easy 647 number with Public Mobile. Is that a hard ask?

Or should I get a number from a 3rd party site, and then Port # to Public Mobile? Any suggestions for the 3rd party site? Anything I should be aware of if I decide to go this route? Thanks.

You have the ability to change the number once a week or 4 times a month. You can go through the list of numbers by pressing refresh.

With regards to 3rd party providers, you can try Fongo. You can port out immediately after signing, but they do charge a fee of $20 if the account is less than 90 days. TextNow has zero restrictions, however, with their new security protocols, they require you to open your camera and take a picture of yourself just to use the service. For your own privacy, I would not suggest doing that as you never know where your picture may end up.

Another option is checking out NumberBarn. They have a Facebook like marketplace that may allow you to buy the area code you want. They have a $5 port out fee which is pretty cheap.

Fongo is an easy one

TextNow can port out too but more trouble

There are other VoIP options as well, you can check Ooma or VoIP.ms or TekTalk by TekSavvy:

If you're lucky, you can find 416 numbers on “no name mobile” and “chatr mobile.” 647 numbers are available via PM.

Thanks for the updated information. It is very clear!
I wanted to run a scenario by you. If I sign up with Public Mobile today but don't end up finding a phone number I like after a few weeks of searching, and I then get a better number through Fongo, would I be able to port that number over to Public Mobile and keep my current Talk & Text (No Data) plan? Also, is there any fee to port the number over? THANKS again!

I think Fongo charges $20 to port under 90 days. But to me, $20 is a small price to pay to get a number you want or like. Don't forget with Fongo, you don't have to pick from the first list of numbers, just change the area code back and forth till you find something. If you don't and it goes down to 2-3 numbers, close the app totally and start again. It's a pain but that's how I found my numbers. 🙂

If you want to avoid paying the $20, you can just call forward your "Toronto" Fongo number to the PM number. And then give out your Fongo number to peeps to call you. Only thing, Fongo charges for texting but it's only $5.49 for 3 months so, it might be better just to use the app to text for a bit. Side note, if you have any Google Opinion Rewards dollars, you can use those to buy your texting. I have Fongo as well and used my GOR to buy a years worth of texting. Oh, one more side note. When you choose to port over the Fongo number or any VOIP number for that matter, it can take up to 7 days. Just so there aren't any surprises.
