Changing plans....Canada US old plan

My current plan is $60 as described here;

As you can see, I haven't really kept up on the current plans since 2019. 😀.

This $50 plan is available to me & seems to be better.

I'm a bit confused as to the 200gb of data in this new plan. Is that roaming data? Meaning, I can use my (iPhone 12) in the US roaming data? With my old plan it's only 2GB

Yes, 100% you can use it in the US. If you can choose that plan, go for it. IMPORTANT!!! Change it for Renewal, not now, unless it's a few days left on your 30 day purchase. This way you don't lose anything you've already paid for. Advice, take screenshots on every step of the change as proof just in case. Back up always helps.

yes, the $50 plan is much better in your case

it has US and Mexico roaming, so, it is cheaper, more data and 5G speed !!

use Change on Renewal to schedule a plan chnage

No because the $50 plan offers 200GB of data and you have 8.5 monthly. Meaning that's 191.5GB more data. Plus it seems you have a one time 2GB previously gifted data which hasn't been used.

With that being said, do you really need 200GB? How about the $45 plan with 150GB? That would save you $15 a month or $180 a year. And I don't know if this offer is available to you but... check to see if you have the $40 plan offer available. If you do, that's $40 30 day cycle with 100GB of data and Can US Mex. Only difference is 500 less international minutes. Best part, $240 a year savings.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, your plan is also going up to $65 a month because it's all 3G related.

This is where I'm confused. Here's my current usage:

The 8.5 GB is used when I data roam in Canada. The 2GB data is used when I data roam in the USA

I spend about 5 months in the US. The 2 GB of data has worked fine while I travel to our destination ( 2 days) then switch over to our internet provider. It would be nice to have extra data though.
I was just reviewing the $50 offer and it looks like I would have to pay for international texts and calls if originating from the USA to Canada. My current plan has unlimited calls texts.

After reading that, umm, there may be some confusion... I think. If you have a Can US Mex plan, you can call back to Canada free of charge, including texting. How about this. Imagine this, color Canada, US and Mexico all one color and that is where your plan works. I think that is a better analogy. And with regards to your addons, the 2GB roam data, I have never seen that before so I think you're correct on that part. The 5GB, 1000 Can LD and 2GB one time bonus, those three have to be used in Canada. But if you get the $50 plan or even $45 plan, you can use your phone and call Canada, Mexico, text Canada as well. It's all one giant package, no extra addons or costs needed.

Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong. This is the fine print on the $50.00. Canada US Mexico plan.

Roaming applies outside Canada & long distance charges apply to calls made outside of Canada. ??

no, those terms are all-in-one terms, not every term applies to all plan

for Canada-US-Mexico plan, you can send and receive calls and texts within the 3 countries for free. And you can use data in all 3 countries

Just to add to this, the only thing you can't do is use any of the 1000 Intl minutes from the US or Mexico. You have to use those in Canada.

That's what I'm questioning. As of now I can place

calls or texts from Canada to the US or from the US to Canada without incurring extra fees. Since we're in the US for 5 months we obviously use our phone extensively. With that said, maybe the $60 I'm paying now isn't so bad compared to a newer $45 or $50 plan that will charge long distance fees.

Can you clarify what you mean as it makes no sense. If you're saying my comment isn't correct, it is. But I'd like to give you the chance to maybe clarify what you meant.

Thanks for the explanation and everyone else helping out. I just want to make sure I won't loose any current benefits. From what I understand, once you change your current plan you can no longer switch back to it.
So, it seems I've been overpaying for quite some time. Always late to the party!!

The new plan gives you more data, cheaper, and same service: you can call and text from Canada to US and Mexico, call and text from US to Canada and Mexico, and also call and text from Mexico to Canada and US
so, the new one is a better one
