My iPhone 16 pro max cellular data option setting was set on 5G Auto. I changed it to 5G on to see if that made any difference in voice reception quality or data. My concern was I don’t want only LTE (4G)

But I’m confused now- if LTE and 5G is only the speed of data & you wouldn’t put too much concern on what it is showing bc 4G is just as fast as 5G? I appreciate your suggestion to conduct a speed test so just now today at 8AM UPLOAD IS 17 Download is 341 Mbps. But THAT MIGHT BE wifi. SO I’ll turn WIFI off temporarily & do the test again to see if that will be the PM comparison.

yes- it changes to download 101 & Upload 10.
but now for the first time in days of looking I finally see the 5G displayed in the upper corner. That was my big question before am I getting a throttle down 4G only from this plant that states it’s 4G only or am I getting 5G when it’s available. According to the phone right now I’m getting 5G. so that’s great. I’m paying for a plan that’s supposed to be throttle to 4G I assume but getting the bonus of 5G

Display is still showing 5G so I did 5 more tests in a row which came out 70 and 10 , 39 and 10 49 and 10 plus another in between I forgot the upload. It was 21 and something. Again, I Would normally have no idea if this is The 4G or the 5G before when iPhone Wasn’t showing- It was only show PM.

You have a lot of iPhones!!
I have never had any of my iPhone show VPN even when I was in business with VPN at Shaw communications

before I leave this conversation. The phone display is still on 5G and I’m doingone last test back on Wi-Fi for comparison because I’m looking at the best thing to do with all of my cell phones, which only is two at the family and Home phone TV and Internet, which is with TELUS. one Bill and discounts for hiring. Everything is tempting, especially if I was locked into only 4G either PM. BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE SPEEDS?

home Wi-Fi where I am the majority of the time for Internet data is currently download 23 & 43 up but was 25 and 132 a moment later - appears my p.m. service is a reverse of my TELUS home Wi-Fi in terms of up and download. thanks for your help and suggestions

PM IS AVOIDING MY QUESTIONS. when I first bought a cheap package I don’t recall seeing it was only 4G but my my understanding from talking to Telus employee trying to get my back that was PM was ONLY 4G& that was why so cheap. My iPhone at the time was 4G so I was not concerned about that. Then I bought a new 5G phone & noticed the indicator on my phone was usually 5G. Sometimes 3G or LTE. BUT MOSTLY 5G- Bonus, I thought- I may only be paying for 4G!
But just recently I noticed there Is no longer an indicator on my phone up with the service bars -Just the name “Public Mobile”.

My original plan expired & PM has raised the price. I was oblivious to the increase. But now that I look I see they also specify it is 4G. They also increased the data substantially I suppose to justify price- but I am always in wifi- don’t really need it.
so I ask, now: is my plan still provisioned for 5G access when available, or is it restricted/throttled to 4G/LTE speeds only?

futher asking-Has anything changed recently in my account provisioning, carrier profile, or network structure that would explain why my iPhone no longer displays “5G”, “LTE”, or “4G” beside the Public Mobile carrier name? And-If my plan is intended to allow 5G access, please confirm that directly.

PM avoided but did go off on a tangent, but I understand coverage and congestion vary. That is not the issue I am asking about.

I am simply asking whether my plan/account itself includes 5G access capability or not. No answer yet.
all this is vary suspicious. I know they are a budget provider- but I just want straight answers to justify me staying despite the inconvenience of their self serve app.
