Since Public mobile only introduced VoLTE since 2022, their whitelist of phones is smaller than other mobile companies include parent Telus and Koodo.

Ideally, it would be best to check IME before purchasing phone. But that may be difficult. PM is aware of this issue and hopefully working on a solution.
Here is a short list of the more popular phones.
Apple iPhone 8 & above
-Pixel 4 and above
-Samsung S22 & above

I am wondering with the upcoming changes and my phone needing to be upgraded for the network (since it's not whitelisted despite technically being "compatible") if purchasing a phone model that Telus sells would work.

I can't afford much but I'd prefer to buy one outright rather than pay monthly and I'd like to stay with Public. I certainly can't afford to buy random phones and hope for the best. I'm just wondering since there doesn't appear to be a dedicated list of phones that work that if Telus sells it, then it should work right?

Thanks!

Sorry, all providers are ending 3G Network and you need a newer phone

What phone do you have?

Or you can also check with Koodo and Telus and see if your phone will work there. But their plan charge could be slightly pricier

When you find a phone you like and can afford ALWAYS check it with PM for compatibility.

Buying a phone form Telus will NOT guarantee it will fork with PM. ALWAYS CHECK IMEI with PM no matter how old or new or fancy your future phone will be.

How can I check IME on a phone I'm buying online? I have been searching for some kind of list of acceptable phones and it feels like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have an Umidigi G100 that should be compatible but the IME says it's not.

Thanks for your reply.

My son has a Samsung Galaxy A14 on Public Mobile and has no issue so maybe I'll consider that (I just found that out 😅).
