Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a new phone as a gift for another family member who is a PM client. What would be the best way to determine if the phone I plan to purchase is compatible with the Public Mobile network?

best is to ensure the new cell is VoLTE ready AND is recognised as VoLTE enabled in Public Mobile world....

stay with the main brands that sell in Canada,.

And those phones that designed for asian market, it is cheaper but it wont' work well here

so, iPhone, Samsung S Series, Samsung A16, A36, A58, Google Pixel, Motorola edge , Motorola Moto g 5G , Motorola Moto g power , Motorola Moto g pure , Motorola Moto g stylus 5G are all safe chices

or any phones you see selling on Telus, Koodo or Bell will work here

I see! Apart from the VoLTE feature, would I also need to validate any band frequencies of the new cellphone?

Also, is the 3G network being shutdown nationally? If so, when would that take place?

Manitoba will ends its 3G in 2026

no firm date for the rest of the country. The complete 3G decommission might be not be done till at least end of 2027, but between now and then you will see 3G degrade a lot as some 3G towers will upgrade to 5G

for the band frequencies, any phones targeting North American market should work without issue.

the 3G networks have already been shut down in US, so non-VoLTE cell won't work today, if in US.
