Switching provider while abroad

Hello,

My public mobile plan renews on the 11th of the month and I'm leaving Canada for a while on Dec 20. I'm curious to know if I can wait until January 11 to switch to another provider (cheap plan that allows me to receive banking texts in Europe). I see that to switch providers, PM sends you a text that needs approval within 90 minutes. My question is will I get this text while in Europe?

Other option is to switch on Dec 10 but then I will have one week without data. If I switch on Dec 19, I basically pay for two plans. Any tips is appreciated. Thankssss

Hello @Soniaa

If I were you, I'd strongly advise to port before you go, at least a week before perhaps, so this way when you come back, you won't have to spend money on a 30 day plan only use it for a few hours to port. That's a waste of money. Might as well port before you leave.

hi @Soniaa sorry, there is really no way to save some money , you have to either port before the trip or still paying and wait till you are back. PM does not have partial cycle nor provide partial refund

thanks, I was just wondering if I can port my number Jan 11 while abroad or if I won't get the text from PM while abroad? in which case I would port before I leave

No, you will not receive the SMS abroad.

Check the My Rewards tab to see if you have 20 points which is equivalent to $20. You can redeem it to pay for some of your November payment.

You can redeem numerous times at 20 points each.

Once you leave, you will lose anything you accumulated to date.

Thanks, I actually just did this. I had no clue about the points and what they could be used for, I could have used that on my earlier trip to the USA instead! thanks for pointing it out, I will still have 15 points or so, too bad I can't give them to someone.
