I switched to a Can US Mex plan yesterday. I'm now in US and my data isnt working until I switched on roaming but I got a notice that this attracts extra charges. Please can you help clarify

You're still roaming, so yes you need to enable data roaming. But you can ignore the message about extra charges, because roaming is included with your plan.
