hi @Steve92

of course not, carriers make money from roaming

you can only receive Text for free when you are in US, and you need to make sure you are connected to T-Mobile or AT&T or Verizon

to make and receive calls, to send/reply text, or to use data, you need one of the Roaming add-on

if you want a free service, you can download VoIP app TextNow. it will give you another phone number and you can make/receive calls and text using the app when you are wifi

@Steve92

If you must have service for that day...Public Mobile does offer a 15 Day US roaming talk/text add-on for $15. You'll be able to use talk and text just like as if you were in Canada. Just make sure you have a VoLTE enabled cell that is VolTE recognized by Public Mobile...otherwise talk will fail while in US. Here's a link to some info and a checker to see if yours is...

https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/get-help/articles/volte

When you get to US border, you'll get a text to buy minutes for use in USA...just ignore when you have the add-on...everyone gets that nag.
