Despite having a Public Mobile 5G CA-US-MX 20GB plan, my iPhone 15 Pro Max is generally set to LTE unless I’m in a large metropolitan area where 5G actually performs as it is supposed to

The other advantage of staying on LTE is that battery life seems superior as I only need to charge every 2-3 days

Upgraded to a 5G plan because service was so slow on 4G, but at least usable. Now my iPhone 12 never goes off of LTE and the speeds are so slow it’s mostly not even worth having data.

Submitted a support ticket over 2 weeks ago and got no response.

Whats going on?

On the Telus network, iPhone 12 only supports n66 with B13 as the anchor.

Unfortunately that is not a supported combo on the network any more. You'll need to upgrade your phone in order to get 5G on Telus.

As a side note, all Public Mobile plans allow 5G. Even the "4G" plans. You don't need to change your plan.

Wait….when I first upgraded I used to see 5G all the time in the first week. Aside from the fact I have no idea what n66 and b13 mean…..so now PM’s network doesn’t support iPhone 12 for 5G? Should that not be stated somewhere?

So I would have to drop a few hundred at the very least on a new phone just to use PM at 5G speed?

I reset the network settings as one of the first things I did.

I seem to remember seeing 5G in the top right of the screen right after I upgraded my plan but not anymore. I’ve not been able to get 5G anywhere now whether in my medium size city or large urban cities in Ontario like Toronto.

Aside from that, even the LTE has been brutally slow….next to unusable. It’s been almost not worth paying for data.

It was a decision by Bell or Telus depending on where you're located. Moving to either of those brands would result in the same behaviour with an iPhone 12.

You can still get 250 Mbps ("5G" speeds) on LTE network. Your day to day experience is not going to change meaningfully.

If you absolutely want to use 5G, you will need to get a new phone or switch to Rogers with iPhone 12.
