HELP!

My kid, was promoted to add data via text from PM. She stupidly said yes, more than once on the same day (smh). Is there anyway I can turn off prompting, or disallow any extras to be added? I agree that her not asking is ultimately the problem. But there should be some way (without using a prepaid credit card) to stop allowing extra charges outside of the actual plan. Anyone experience this and need to come up with a solution to avoid charges outside of allotted subscription plan?

what you can do is to block the shortcode that PM uses to send the sms asking if extra data is needed. If the text is blocked, your son would not be able to reply Yes for extra data

Will try. Doesn't help when PM accepts that yes 3 times(IN ONE DAY!!) equals 3x the data added 120$ later.

Hi @Brianv72,
I don't see a visible “data‑lock” switch in the portal, and EverSafe (2FA) doesn’t block add‑on purchases by text. The reliable fix is to make sure there’s nothing to bill unless you deliberately fund it.

Kid‑proof setup (takes 5 minutes)

Remove regular cards & keep balance at $1-$2.

My Account ▸ Payments ▸ Manage payment method → remove any normal card and turn off Auto‑Pay.
With $0 Available Funds and no billable card, a “YES” to a promo text fails because there’s nowhere to charge.

Pay by voucher only

Use Payments ▸ Redeem Payment Voucher to add exactly the plan + tax right before renewal.
Keep the account balance empty the rest of the month.

If you must keep a card on file (PM sometimes wants one on file)

Put a reloadable prepaid/virtual Visa or Mastercard from your bank/fintech on the account.
Keep it frozen and/or with a near‑zero limit. Unfreeze/top up briefly at renewal, then freeze again.
This satisfies the “card on file” requirement while stopping surprise add‑ons.

Reduce the temptation

Reply STOP to marketing/offer texts. If they continue, ask support to remove the line from promo SMS while keeping EverSafe/2FA messages.

Device guardrails (works with any carrier)

iPhone: Screen Time ▸ Cellular Data Changes = Don’t Allow; add limits to heavy apps.
Android: Family Link + Data usage limits; disable Premium SMS permissions.

PM is prepaid service with clearly defined terms and conditions. Add‑ons can only come out of Available Funds or the card on file. With no balance and a limited/frozen prepaid card, unexpected add‑ons can’t be billed.

Optional charges require express consent under Canada’s Wireless Code. If you’re billed for an add‑on you didn’t intend, open a ticket for reversal. If not resolved, escalate to the CCTS (they handle individual wireless billing/consent disputes).

TL;DR: Remove/limit the card, keep funds at $1-$2, pay by voucher only, opt out of promo texts, add device restrictions, and get support to note the account. After that, a “YES” text has nowhere to bill—problem solved. 👍

Unfortunately, "blocking" the messages doesn't really block them. While the person using the phone won't receive any notification about such a text message coming in, anyone using the phone could still manually open up the list of all "blocked" conversations and messages. Also, if the user finds it, the person could still reply "yes".
