OK. Thanks to everyone who replied. Some questions went unanswered but I took a chance.

Let me report back in case it's helpful for anyone who is finding this whole matter as mysterious as I did.

Without being absolutely certain what would happen, I installed the eSIM, removed the old public mobile SIM and put my Mexican SIM in the place where the public mobile SIM had been. The installation of the eSIm was simple and seamless, and when I installed the Mexican SIM, my phone guided me through the process of activating the features I wanted from each SIM.

Now I have two phone numbers on this same phone and I can turn features of either SIM on or off in the settings. I still don't know what's going to happen when I buy a new phone to replace this one. but so far this is working out.

Thanks all.

I'm a long time public mobile user and I'm currently using a physical SIM but I would like to change to an eSIM. My current phone is a Pixel 7XL which I understand supports this.

How do I go about changing to an eSIM?

yes, by download PM app and login with the email login you have been using, you are keeping the same phone number with the new esim

OK. I have the app and use it regularly.

I just now went and looked at this option but there's a lot I don't understand and I don't want to screw things up.

What I'm wondering is this.

Once I purchase an eSIM and install it, can I remove the old SIM and put in a physical SIM for a second number ?

And, what happens when I buy another phone to replace this one?

Understood.

Let me explain. I have a Canadian public mobile account and I'm very happy with it, but I also have a Mexican account for when I'm in Mexico with a Mexican physical SIM . At present I'm carrying two phones.

I'm thinking that if I put the public mobile on eSIM I could put the Mexican physical SIM in the place of my old public mobile SIM and carry just one phone but still have both the Canadian the Mexican phone numbers working on the same phone.
