Hi there, I'm 64 and retired. I currently have Fido for my cell phone and pay over $60 per month, no contract. I'd like to switch to Public Mobile for cheaper rates. I don't need a lot of data. What are my options please. Thanks!

the $45 80GB Canada-US-Mexico is a good choice if you need roaming. If not, $32-20GB and $34-60GB are both great Canada only deal

$30/30 days- 10 GB data with US and Mexico roaming, 1000 long distance minutes (to limited countries)

$35/30 days - 60 GB data with US and Mexico roaming, 1000 long distance minutes (to limited countries)

FYI, compared to Fido, Public mobile does not have live customer service (ie. call centre or live chat), no Wifi calling, no Call control and no international roaming (except for US and Mexico). Everything is self service and online.

I will also share this with you as being retired, money can be tight and you need to save. Another option is with Telus. $100 with unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data per month. This may be exactly what you're looking for. Granted it's only for 1 year but there are always deals out there all the time.

Thanks! No WiFi calling you mentioned, at home it's fine as I have wifi but what if I need to make a phone call from outside for an emergency? no plan with wifi and minimum data?

As long as you have your payment schedule turned on, it will recycle every 30 days and charge your credit card. The only time you'll have to deal with it is when the expire date changes. Then you'll have to log into your account and change the expire date info.

@bea11 The plans are 30 days and renew automatically at the same rate every 30 days as long as you don't disable auto-pay (subscribed). Wifi is when you connect to your home internet, the cell phone away from home would use cellular data. Wifi calling is something some other carriers have that enable you to make a phone call over wifi. You don't need that to make phone calls unless you are in an area with no normal cell phone service.

Well, $100 for one year. One payment covers the entire year. It's like $8.33 a month. At the end of the year, there may be an option to renew it by paying another $100 but offers change so there might be something better then. Hard to predict the future. But I have helped several of my retired neighbors and friends on that plan.

Download the Public Mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.

Create your account and follow the steps in the app to activate your SIM (or eSIM).

You can keep your current number or get a new one.
