where you are trying to call? you can easily make free calls to US. But probably not many options for calls to other countries

OP was trying to call UK banks. While small number banks and businesses have a Whatsapp helpline, most don't. Whatsapp is just an A2A calling and the other party has to have an Whatsapp setup, you cannot call a phone number with Whatsapp like a true VoIP app

You could purchase an add-on for long distance minutes or use rewards points to purchase. If you've been around several years perhaps you even have some LD minutes gifted from past christmases to use.
