    <description>&lt;P&gt;I have some updated information.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This is from a supervisor after a month of me asking about my phone.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;"VoLTE capability is not restricted by Public Mobile alone but is part of how all carriers manage network compatibility. While Public Mobile plans support VoLTE, a device must also be certified and compatible with the network for VoLTE to function...Device certification involves testing to ensure compatibility, and this process is managed by both the carrier and the device manufacturer."&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;In my case I have a OnePlus Nord CE2 Global edition that I bought on Amazon 2 years ago thinking I was going to be good for 5G. Now it feels like it's just going to be a expensive brick.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This is what the supervisor from public mobile had to say when I asked for more specifics about certification...&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;"This typically involves:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Network Testing &amp;amp; Certification – OnePlus needs to work with carriers to test and certify their devices for VoLTE functionality on specific networks. This ensures proper compatibility with our network infrastructure.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Firmware &amp;amp; Software Updates – The device must have the correct network profiles and settings, which may include specific modem firmware (.mbn files) that enable VoLTE on our network. OnePlus is responsible for implementing and updating these files.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;IMS Registration &amp;amp; Network Whitelisting – Even if a device technically supports VoLTE, it must be properly configured and recognized by the carrier’s network for VoLTE services to be enabled.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If OnePlus is open to working on certification, they would need to initiate discussions with our network team. They may also have more insight into whether a firmware update could enable VoLTE on Public Mobile."&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi, I'm mystified by a text I just received from Public Mobile. Due to "upgrades" my connectivity will be degraded after Feb 20 (in two days??). They're offering to give me a used iphone and a switch to Koodo.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;How do I interpret this? Are they saying my service on my particular device will be permanently degraded due to upgrades? (It doesn't say the issue will be temporary.) Why are they trying to get me to go to another company?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Why two days notice? I've got hospital stuff coming up.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I was having real problems accessing cellular data yesterday.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;edited by computergeek541: profanity removed - customers are not to use creative spelling, abbreviations, etc. to get around the swear word filter&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;I received the same message. Looks like the usual Public Mobile text message though the support link in the text message goes directly to Koodoo Mobile and it's from a shortcode number that Public Mobile doesn't usually use. My guess is it's a scam as Canadian MNOs are obligated to give 30 days notice for changes like this according to the wireless code&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Can you explain to me how the 3g, 4g thing works. If my phone can use 4g for data, why shouldn't it be able to use 4g for voice? Aren't the "g's" the network speed, do you need a particular phone to deal with with different speeds?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;FYI all, someone privately messaged me the following. They don't seem to want to post here. If true, this seems crazy. Come on, surely we don't all have to buy iphones?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The problem is the severe restrictions on anything else other than iphone 8 and newer for the newer talk system called volte. It's like it's an iphone provider and other phones are barely tolerated. It sucks. My phone is perfectly able to use volte with other providers but this place refuses to enable it. They are intentionally filtering devices using what is clearly a non-standard proprietary system to cut them out. Except iphone 8 and newer.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;So if they are in fact starting to shut down the old 3G/UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA networks then this will affect those devices that aren't able to use volte. The same thing happened in the states when they all shut down their 3G networks. People had to scramble to get a device that was able to use volte and be accepted by the providers.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;I don't think the chat box reply is wrong because it was very specific. However, what you're referring to about them upgrading to 4G could cause issues with connectivity. Currently public mobile seems to be offering upgrade packages themselves to 4G which would solve the problem I would think in terms of anyone who is experiencing connectivity issues after February 20th.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I received this text message on January 31th from the same short code.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;"Public Mobile here.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;We are making upgrades to our 4G network that may impact your 3G voice, messaging, and data connectivity. You may experience a degraded 3G connection from February 3 to February 8, 2025 and then ongoing after February 20, 2025.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Public Mobile support publicmobile.ca/sl/NmWI3dImOJ is available to help you if you are impacted."&lt;/P&gt;</description>
