New to PM... through all my browsing and searching of posts I don’t see an option for adding additional texts onto the $10/30 day plan.

Only 48 hours and not sure how this will work out as an emergency cellular plan for my mom, but I thought I’d ask before/if she reaches the 50 text limit before the months up, and in that scenario what happens?

The limited talk and text plan is very new. Unfortunately, the add-ons offerings have not kept up with the plan introductions and so there isn't a complementary text add-on. This is something I am sure the decision makers are aware of. If the plan is here to stay, it would make sense that in future there will be a complementary text add-on. BTW, it is serendipity that the long distance add-ons are there to fill the gap when the minutes are used up. The original intent of these add-ons are to support long distance calling for unlimited calling plans.

@ElleBee83 see, this is why I was complaining yesterday. The entire reason PM brought out this plan was to match one that was being offered at a couple of other providers (I forget which ones off-hand). However, they didn't think it through. It's going to be so easy for someone to exceed the 50 outbound messages and really no recourse.

The issue is that up until this one plan, you could only either get zero texting, or unlimited (unmetered) texting. This is the first and only plan at PM that offers a metered/limited number of text messages. There's never been a need for an add-on for texts before becuase you either got all the texting you wanted, or none, with no in-between.

Technically, there aren't really any airtime add-ons either! The 200 min and 400 min add-ons, for EVERY plan except this $10 plan, can ONLY be used for long distance calls, and cannot stand in for airtime. In other words, you can't choose "no talk" and then use the 200/400 min add-ons at all. Yet with the $10 plan, they made an exception, and the 200/400 can be used to augment your regular 50 min airtime if you run out. There was no similar add-on to use for texting.

Hence my suggestion that metered texting either should not have been offered, OR should include a LOT more than 50 outbund texts (500? 1000? 2500? Something like that), OR they should offer an add-on (though this is my least favourite of these 3 options).

Too expensive for 10 days, in my opinion for local (within the Lower Mainland-Vancouver Area) usage.

@ElleBee83 yes not only would it be a hassle re-adding it every 10 days, but if you multiply 3 x $8 to cover 30 days an add it to the $10 base plan, you're at $34, which is $4 more expensive than unmetered Canada-wide calling, unmetered international texting, and 500MB of 3g-speed data ($30); OR, $1 cheaper than the same thing but with 1GB of 3g-speed data ($35). So, it really makes little sense.

@ElleBee83 wrote:

@Anonymous wrote:

Hello

You Need To Changed Your Plans

To get UNLIMITED Text

Good Luck

Don’t really wanna do that. I signed her up for PM specifically for the $10 plan.

Yikes - like the saying goes "all that glitters is not gold". At first glance the $10 plan appears to be almost too good to be true with only $8 add on for 200 extra talk minutes etc. HOWEVER most rely on texting. For those of us Mac persons iMessage does help but when texting away from a WIFI router or to an android user then the 50 texts go very quickly.

I don't why people are surprised or complain about the 50 text limit. It states that fact before you even sign up. This plan works (well) for a select few. If you do a lot of texting, look for another plan. Koodo prepaid has unlimited texting for $15/month

Now I do agree with some of the complaints about phantom texts being sent that you have little control over. There needs to be some education or clarificaton around this.

Yup - I agree that one has to do their research and not assume and complain afterwards. That is why I kept my Bell plan -- and did not port my number. I still feel that the $10 plan is a very good deal as long as one has an iPhone and can use the free iMessage when possible.
