No cell phone companies will allow a SIM card to be used twice. Once it's cancelled, you have to purchase a new one regardless same compnay. This prevents fraud.

Also note if you start new, you will loose all your rewards to date.

Reuse Public Mobile nano Sim Card?

I currently have a Public Mobile account activated with a nano SIM card. I want to subscribe to a new plan at a reduced rate. I received a response from a customer support agent that I have to cancel my current account, and create a new account with a new nano SIM card. I cant find out why my old SIM card can’t be used in the same phone with a new account number and a new plan. The cost for the new SIM card is not an issue, just trying to understand why a new one is required. Thanks.

@VWaite

PM has made it more difficult to downgrade to a lower priced plan from your current plan. You can only switch to plans indicated in your account so login and go to Subscription tab>Manage Subscription>Change Subscription…there it will list all plans your are eligible to switch to. If there is a lower plan, great just switch to it on your next renewal date.

But if all eligible plans are higher than your current plan.
But the catch, you need to port your number out to another carrier then port back to PM (the CS_Agent should have indicated this to you) if you want to keep your existing number. You can’t use the same SIM so you need to create a new account and new SIM and pick a lower priced plan offered for new members.

@BKNS27 is correct. If you're planning to keep your number you'll need to first port out to another carrier temporarily (I'd suggest Lucky Mobile) and then port back to a new account at Public Mobile. If you don't care about keeping your number, you can skip this step.

Thanks everyone for the explanations. I also appreciate the heads up about the steps required to port a phone number when creating a new account.
