you can't. You can take a new number in your new province, but not your old number....sorry.

Unfortunately, the taxes are based on the area code of that province so you can’t keep the number. You will need to change your number if you want to save on provincial tax or keep your number and pay the provincial tax.

So if the province you've moved to has less taxes, you could change your number...but you wouldn't be able to bring your old number to new province as the area code needs to change. Have a look at the bank of new numbers for your area and see if there's a number you can live with. It only takes a day or two for your contacts to get used to your new number.

PM's policy of charging tax based on area code is not going to work. I am on PEI (15% HST) and we share area code 902 with NS (14% HST). I am being undercharged by 1%. Since it's a business expense for me, it makes no difference to me personally. However PM will be in trouble with CRA for undercharging HST.

other than area code, it could be where the number originally located. That location is determined by the next 3 digits after the area code. Maybe what is that next 3 digits you have?

Who knows. Nevertheless, it's on PM to fix their billing strategy.
