Hello,
Looking to transfer my mothers cell phone from Virgin mobile to Public Mobile. I'm wondering the steps for this?

Sign up online for the plan, select a Sim card to be delivered to our home, Transfer our old phone number from Virgin to Public mobile.
Does public mobile now cancel the old plan during the transfer of phone number?

Also is support all online? Is there a way to talk to a human in the future if I have issues with the account or something else?

Thanks

@bryanviper I would recommend finding a Telus/Koodo or Mobile Klinik store near you and purchase in person for $10, or you can purchase from Amazon.ca for $5 and should arrive in 1 or 2 days, otherwise ordering directly from Public Mobile could take weeks to arrive.

Transferring the number from Virgin will close out the Virgin account so you don't have to do that. Just make sure to leave the old SIM card in the phone and wait for the confirmation text for transferring the number, you will have 90 minutes to respond "YES". After that you can remove the old SIM and replace it with the new PM SIM

All support is online but this community forum is a terrific way to get answers if you get stuck but it usually is pretty straight forward

@bryanviper

Activating the new SIM are all done through the PM app so download the app on her phone.

Once the porting is completed, her Virgin account will automatically close.

Check if you followed these steps in order.

The steps must be followed in exact order if you are porting your number over to PM:

Make sure your old SIM is active so DON’T CANCEL serviced with them.

Purchase a PM SIM from Amazon ($5) or Canadian Cell Supplies ($4) or pick one up from Telus/Koodo/Mobile Klinik store ($10.00) or eSIM from Public (ONLY if your phone is eSIM compatible so check).

Download the PM app on your phone to activate the SIM. There is an option to pick a new number or

Porting your old number = Use the old account number and not the IMEI to avoid issues. Complete to step 6. Note that your previous service is Koodo prepaid…you will need to pick a temporary number and contact the CS_Agent to complete the porting of your old number.

Keep the old SIM in your phone and wait for the text from old carrier and confirm with YES you are porting over to PM within 90 minute window once you get the text.

Keep the old SIM in your phone until porting process is completed because the old SIM will continue to work for about 2 hours.

Power off the phone once porting is completed then switch to PM SIM and power on your phone.
