T-Mobile 2G shutdown + issues on travelling to USA

Hey fellas,
I was just reading a news and saw that T-Mobile is shutting their 2G in Feb 2025
So, people travelling to US might have issues, if you dont have an VoLTE phone. Please look into it asap, so you dont have issues roaming over T-Mobile, just in case

I got myself the good deal, during Boxing week and the $35 for 75GB, with 1000 mins calling, that's awesome!
Calling doesn't have hinderance (intl calling) even if you do conference calling + HD option might be missing, but, its quite clear
Data speeds have gone up, so thats a good sign, especially where I live + the network has improved a bit, since last 2-3 months. So, it seems that they have been working on upgrades and we are up for some treat but the next Q of 2025

yes, there has been news about T-Mobile shutting down 2G, just not sure when is the exact date

In that article, I saw the date to be Feb 9th but the total shut-down will come in the months to follow!

T-Mobile's own website still says as of 1st September 2024 "Capacity and coverage of T-Mobile's 2G (GSM) network is expected to change starting as early as September 1, 2024."

I think they've moved it before that too. I was thinking they were probably doing it bit by bit, so sounds like the end is getting nearer.

for sure not Sept 2024. I was there in Christmas and still able to connect to T-Mobile 2G network

@hTideGnow Doesn't it depend maybe where you are though? People have been saying for a while it is spotty.

I use the TextNow SIM for 5G and free calling, texting and essential data while in the USA.

As you mentioned, I think you're right. They started it back in Sept 2024, they're slowly removing the coverage, rather than doing it abruptly!
